Guest guest
I've noticed too that I think my body has either become intolerant of exercise or carbs or both. I eat anything with carbs and I can get very high readings. I now eat a very balanced diet and eat all carbs in moderation and my body now can handle 30 grams of carb at a sitting and sometimes even more... sussie okay, here is what I want to know how many carbs a day or a meal do you all eat? I have been doing low carb but am craving them and each time I eat them my bs spikes. I am curious how many carbs you all eat sandy
Guest guest
I don't know which person you were asking but you said ya'll so I'll answer. I eat approx 15-20 carbs per meal. I try to keep under 75 per day and usually its around 60. Which I am told is just not enough carbs to do this day in and day out for months on end. At one point I ate about 30 carbs total per day. I exercise after each meal. Not too long - about 15 minutes of jogging either inside when its cold or outside. Then I do weights - strengthening 3-4 times a week for 20 minutes. And I drink a lot of water. Water always flushes out excess glucose from the blood and helps protect the kidneys. I know a lot of type II's from other places and they eat pretty much the same way. Maybe 20 carbs more a day for them. I think it depends a lot on your own personal metabolism and ability to do exercises. Then again I know men who inhale as much as 300 carbs per day on diet and exercise alone and have great levels. carbs I've noticed too that I think my body has either become intolerant of exercise or carbs or both. Guest guest
I'm on D & E only - NO medications for anything. I exercise 2 hours per day. In fact, I just returned from an hour walk with my husband! I use to work out at the gym 2 hours per day, but since moving to Florida in January, I have not joined a gym yet. I still get in 2 hours one way or another. With all the exercise & strength training, I burn up a lot of carbs. Again, I avoid the heavy starches, such as potatoes, rice, bread, and pasta. I get most of my carbs mainly from veggies. I do eat oatmeal in the mornings & occasionally have sweet potatoes & low-calorie, low-carb wheat bread. Rhonda Yeager in FL playfuladventures@... Rhonda, Are you on any medication or just D & E ? Because I'd feel right full with that amount of carbs per day . I'm on just D & E Thanks,

Guest guest
Sandy, Snacks: . Cheese cubes, slice of ultra lean ham or the atkins go with anything pork rind snack. Peanut butter within reason. Walnuts or Pecans. I have toast on low carb bread [4 carbs per slice]. Put some splenda/cinnamon on it. Cinnamon toast. Every other day I have a low carb shake. All the protein and vitimans a body needs for 4 carbs and 120 calories. I can always tell the days I drink this I am bouncing with energy from the protein and vitamins. Lunch is maybe tuna salad on a bed of lettuce. I'll guess at around 6 carbs with mayo and a bit of diced pickles and celery. Couple of real crackers - 10 carbs. Afternoon snack : low carb cheesecake. These are so good. About 10 carbs. Easy to make too. A broiled/grilled chicken breast w/herbs and butter is 2 carbs. Side of 1 cup green beans - 6 carbs. Slice of low carb herb n garlic bread toast - 4 carbs. Desert- 4 nice ripe strawberries dipped in splenda is less than 6 carbs because a whole cup is only 10 and low on glycemic scale. I make low carb brownies with almond flour and walnut pieces. They are sugar free but taste so good you can't tell they are diabetic. about 10 carbs for a nice size brownie. You can have anything you want if you limit how much you eat of it. Sometimes I grab a couple of my husband's french fries. Or a big spoonful of his mashed potatoes. Have you tried the newest low carb pasta ? pastalia ? Its great. A big serving for 10 g of carb. Pour anything over it you like that is low carb and voila you feel you are cheating and your not. Go low carb shopping. There's some good things out there. And some not so good things. Read labels till you are sick of it and then do it some more. It will come easy after a bit. Hormel ready to heat/eat entrees. I found that the pot roast with gravy and the beef tips w/gravy are only 3 carbs per serving. Why ? Because its real meat. And because they don't put a lot of flour n other junk in it. All in all I think I eat pretty good. Its just a bit more trouble than non diabetics who don't have to think or cook before they put something in their mouths. And whatever I do it works because my last hbac1 was 4.4 And its hard to beat that. On diet and exercise alone. I exercise every day and drink 6-7 tall glasses of water. Guest guest
Carol, I haven't seen a bg of 170 in months. I used to though. I'd eat a whopper bun and all and then exercise like a mad woman to get it down. 10 carbs will raise mine about 15 points. I know what you say is true concerning 5 points per carb . It might be the type of carbs. Some cause real weak peaking. If I ate 10 carbs of table sugar, that would be 2.5 teaspoons full I would up mine about 30 points. And I'd still be hungry. Perhaps its the exercise or the water or something too. I never have that type of snack without a large glass of water. From: Carole Schmidt To: diabetes Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2003 3:46 PM Subject: RE: carbs , I have a question for you. How much does your BG rise when you eat 10 carbs, say the cheesecake for example. I go up about 5 points per carb. That would be a 50 point spike for me. If I am running in the 120's, it would take me to the 170's which I consider to be too high. Sure wish I could, though!! Carole Re: carbs Sandy, Snacks: . Guest guest
Hi Bruce, Wow you make your own pasta. I don't know anyone who does that but maybe someday you'd post the secrets . I like cabbage as pasta. Makes a good lasagna noodle. I also like the fiber in the ready to eat low carb kind. They have finally gotten the idea they must mix the flours also so that the product's texture is near regular. It still takes a lot longer to cook. Perhaps they add a lot of gluten ? Guest guest
Hi , Here is the url to one of the best stories - article about the differrences between how a diabetic handles food and how a non diabetic does. Don't feel alone, I kept asking this same question over and over and over again. As in, like why does my husband eat a candy bar and his bs goes up to 180 and 30 min later it is 90 ? Here is why : http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/readit/chapter1-3.shtml Re: carbs Everyone keeps mentioning spikes when they eat carbs etc. Does a person without diabetes have the same affect when they eat sugary snacks or foods high in carbs? Wouldn't anyone who eats sugar have a spike right away after eating these things? Just wondering about that, Thanks, <-----still has much to learn
Guest guest
Hi again , When it first came out over a month ago it sold out of online shops faster than they could obtain it. I finally secured some from a company where I have become a bit friendly with one of the owners. She explained it thus. The new pasta is made in Italy. There is one importer who lives in Florida to satisfy the whole nation of pasta customers. Evidently in Italy they are in no hurry to up production. So for 203 weeks it was on back order everywhere. Now I've seen the online web shops say " We have it back in stock ! " . I buy from several web shops. Depending on my needs. www.lowcarbliving.com www.synergydiet.com and http://store.pleasantvillecookiecompany.com Each one has monthly specials and different products. I also have a local whole foods market where I can find some things I use. Anytime you can find it locally you usually save in shipping costs. I don't know where you live, but if its anywhere near urban you might find these products local to you Good Luck, Re: carbs In a message dated 4/1/2003 3:44:56 PM Central Standard Time, alexxia@... writes: > Have you tried the newest low carb pasta ? pastalia ? Guest guest
Rhonda, Thank you for taking time to reply. First, lucky you ,down there in FL. I spent a year there right on the gulf and loved it. Everyone gets out and moves .. Unlike where I live now, I think they embrace coach potatoitis like no other people. That explains it ! Exercise. It will cure most any diabetic ills. I get in some exercise everyday. Strength only 3 times a week since i learned the weights shred muscle and one has to give the muscle time to repair or no gain. I really love doing it though and can spend 30 minutes TV time with the weights and get both the news and my training in. I've got some problems walking long distances though due to neuropathy so am going shopping for a stationary bike at the sports store tomorrow. Thanks again, Re: carbs I'm on D & E only - NO medications for anything. I exercise 2 hours per day. In fact, I just returned from an hour walk with my husband! I have been doing this on and off for 4 months now. But recently since I was diagnosed, I eat this way all the time. I have some eggs and meat (bacon sausage or something) for breakfast, nuts or jerky for a snack, salads with chicken or just chicken for lunch and for dinner I eat a meat (steak, chicken, pork) a small green salad and green beans, broccoli, or any other lower carb veggie for dinner. For me, this WOE is #1 for weight loss purposes and #2 to control my BG. I can lose easily this way and now after being diagnosed, I have a HUGE motivation to stick to it. I have to lose weight to control my BG, I know that is the key for me! I was not diabetic until I gained weight over the past 4 years, and I do not fall into the typical age range for adult onset diabetes. Guest guest
Sandy, I have been doing low carb for so long now that I don't even count anymore, but I just know what I should and shouldn't eat. I posted earlier and mentioned all that though. I do not eat anything with real sugar, I do not eat any rice, potatoes or anything made with those things. No processed snacks or candy or cakes or bread or any of that. Just eggs, meat, cheese, salad, veggies and every now and then I will have fruit. It is pretty radical, but it works for me and I can lose serious weight on it when I stick too it. (which now since I have been diagnosed, I don't have a choice)
Guest guest
, I guess it may be different for each person. I don't have any problems with eating meat. Eating low carb helps me lose the weight that I so desperately need to lose and it keeps my BG levels more stable.

I Hi Carole, I am on meds, but my Dr. didn't ask, didn't give me a decision to make. Guess I will take them and diet until everything is under control. I know I will get there one day. Hope it is sooner than later. But I guess my number one concern is losing the weight, because I know in my heart that it is the contributing factor to me being diabetic! Awwww dog party sounds fun. I have 2 cats right now (and a gerbil) but I am begging my hubby for a puppy. He says ok, but makes me feel guilty about the money part of it LOL. Oh well. I am now looking for a job, so maybe when that happens, I will get me a new animal companion By the way, what kind of dog/s do you have? Hi , I have a brother that was seriously injured about 10-12 years ago. Only by the grace of God and one emergency room doctor did he survive. The other doctor gave up on him. Since that time he has had health problems including diabetes, though he is not overweight. I have been overweight for many years, but had lost about 40 lbs when I was diagnosed with cancer 8 years ago. With the chemo, I also had to take steroids and I gained 45 lbs in less than 3 months. I know that the sudden weight gain and the steroids played a major role in my having diabetes. I have read that a trauma to the body can cause diabetes and I believe this is what happened to my brother. Diabetes has been a blessing for me. It made me realize that I needed to take control of my health and I love the new me. Where I used to live to eat I now eat to live. Guest guest
Hi - I usually have a little protein and cottage cheese in the AM. Then I snack on pecans, sometimes cheese and dinner is protein with salad (limited tomatoes and onions) or green beens broccoli. I have coffee with half and half, diet drinks and propel water. I realize this is a very limited WOE, but it works for me and keeps me off meds and that is my goal.
