Guest guest
Pam, Look at how good things have turned out for and Sonja following the lap. Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all. Maybe the doc will suggest this, altho I've heard from others that the RE's usually push IVF. But like you said it would be covered. And the surgery doesn't sound too drastic - was washing floors the next day - lol Tara
Guest guest
Tara, One thing that really made me think that maybe I should have the lap is that the radiologist said it looked like my ep was at the top of my tube. I was thinking that the inside of my tube might be damaged, but maybe it has something to do with the fimbria not be completely opened. My dr did push the IVF. I think because the pg rate is so high and the ep low. But I think there is alot involved which may not seem like alot to him. Pam
Guest guest
Pam, You definitely need to decide what makes you comfortable. If that's going for a lap, then I say go for it. IVF is a major decision, so I can understand your hesitancy. I'll be praying for you. Tara
Guest guest
Pam - I wanted to have the lap because I wasn't ready yet to accept the fact that ivf was my only option. I had had 2 prior laps and was familiar with the surgery and the recovery, etc... My doc pushed the lap because there is no way to know the true status of the tube without going in and looking at it...the hsg, x rays, sono, etc...don't show the tube and how it is damaged (or not) whether it is internal, external and how it can be repaired. I was lucky in that I got great news...and it was well worth it. Good luck - whatever you decide! COurtney
Guest guest
, Just hearing your story makes me feel like I should have the lap. I have never had surgery before. I am really nervous of the thought of it. I had never even been to the er before my ep. I was treated with metho. I have a dr appt on the 26th. He wanted to talk to me before we scheduled the lap. I'm so thankful for modern medicine. Are you guys going to ttc again? How long after your lap do you have to wait to ttc again? Thanks, Pam

Guest guest
Pam, I had my lap. now just over 2 weeks ago, and all my doc. said was to wait until after my follow-up which was on Tuesday, so we have a all clear. You are actually more 'fertile' right after a lap. since it washes all the cobwebs out, and they can fix all little things while they're in there, so the sooner you get down 'to it' after the better your chances of success. We were told to jump right in and not waste a moment. take care sonja Re: lap vs IVF , Just hearing your story makes me feel like I should have the lap. I have never had surgery before. Guest guest
Sonja, Thanks for the info. I was wondering about the more fertile thing. I know its true after an HSG so I was thinking it must be true after surgery. Talk to you Monday. Pam
Guest guest
Pam - my doc said to wait 2 weeks before having intercourse...I have an appointment on Thursday at which time I will ask when we can start ttc...I don't think we have to wait to be honest but I'm not sure. We do plan though, to take it easy for the summer, go on vacation and not obsess about ttc. For me, the thought of ivf and everything it entails seemed like as my doc said 'putting the cart before the horse' - to me it only made sense to have the lap because the chances were that ivf wasn't my only option. I was lucky in that my tube is perfectly healthy and just needed alittle straigtening out. I would have hated to start the ivf process only to find out later that I could have conceived naturally... surgery is never fun...but like I said I have had 2 laporoscopies and 1 laporatomy so I knew what to expect and it made it easier to make the decision. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Guest guest
Thanks , I have my RE appt Friday. I'll let you know what direction we go. At least now I am open minded both ways and can understand my options. Pam
