If the A1c is a 3 month average, what difference would it make if you had coffee that particular day of not? a

Hi a, Good question, but I don't know the answer. This is another question I have for my doctor when I go in June. Hugs Eunice

Guest guest
Speaking of different, I had my first drink since taking insulin yesterday. It was at home and it was Bacardi and OJ. I had my glucometer handy and was prepared for the reaction. However, I was not prepared for the reaction I did get: My BG went UP to 312! Maybe it was the OJ, but I also go with a glass of rum and only a splash of OJ. Oh well, next time, probably in two or three months, I'll see what happens then. --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
Just a guess, but, mayhaps the very recent meal (coffee or whatever) will tend to over-power the results of the 3 month average. That may be why they don't want you to consume anything that could change the HBA1C. --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
I think that there is both a regular hab1c and a fasting hab1c, just as their is a regular blood glucose and a fasting blood glucose. However, I may be so far out in left field that I'm in Iraq. =P --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
It could be part of either denial or transference (ok, so it's all psycho-babble and I don't know anything). He may be taking his anger and fear at the diabetes out on you instead. Also, if he has had high sugar levels, then a lower level than he is used to may be giving him low sugar symptoms, even though they are still high. I was averaging high 500s and when I initially got down to the 300s I was getting low sugar symptoms of anger and dizziness. My body just had to get used to the new levels and it took a while (few weeks). Right now, don't blame him and don't blame yourself. Hang in there. --- Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
This behavior is abusive; his diabetes may be an explanation, but it is not an excuse. Love does not mean allowing yourself to be abused. Tell him to get help and counseling, or the relationship is over. The next time he tries to get violent with you, call the police and either get out of the house or get somewhere that he can't get to you (iirc, he's in a wheelchair, isn't he? Is there a room with a door too narrow for him to get through, or does your house have an upstairs or a downstairs?). Does your community have a Domestic Violence hotline? If so, call it. Re: Coffee and BG's Hi-this is Carolyn again and I am the newly wed and I need lots of help understand a diabetc person. My husband sulls up for up to 3 days at time and does not talk to me.Some days he gets quite violent.Today he told me to leave his house and he doesn't love me anymore-I am very confused.Somebody told me that she worked wth person with diabetes and they sometimes got this way if thier blood sugar was low.I really don't understand whyhe is doing this-is this typical?I know he loves me-I just don't understad what is goig on.This is the worse it has ever been. Guest guest
My father's doctor says that the best cocktail for a diabetic--if he drinks at all--would be a dry martini (gin or vodka); another good option is a gin or vodka-and-tonic made with diet tonic. Whisky or brandy and soda would be good too. Avoid sweet mixers, including fruit juice. Re: Coffee and BG's Speaking of different, I had my first drink since taking insulin yesterday. Guest guest
Why don't you try Rum and Diet Coke????? Re: Coffee and BG's My BG went UP to 312! Maybe it was the OJ, but I also go with a glass of rum and only a splash of OJ. I've been told that OJ is very high in sugar. But run is made from distilled sugar cane, so it's possibly a draw there. Heck, I'm a sailor, how do you think I feel, no more rum. But i's work ok. I even make my own beer. I now have to ask everyone, how's it taste and does it have enough kick? Steve L.
