Is this coconut oil as good as the stuff I buy at the hfs and pay

$14.00 for 16oz?

Coconut Oil unrefined (Certified Organic)

(Cocos nucifera)

Method of extraction: Expeller Pressed/Unrefined

This is a truly spectacular oil with a deep, and mildly intoxicating

scent of pure Coconut pulp.100% virgin expeller pressed and

unrefined. Same benefits as our refined coconut oil, but more

suitable for food use because of its nutritional value, and

containing a higher fatty acid content.

Qty: 1gal Coconut oil UNREFINED organic $28.00 5gal Coconut oil

UNREFINED organic $119.00

Thanks, Sandy

Yes, it's very good quality (and very cheap!).

I was skeptical at first, but after trying it I love it. It is very similar

to the Garden of Life I was paying 15.99 for 16 oz for. I find it very

smooth with a light coconut aroma. Good enough to drink straight if you're

so inclined. :)

  • 2 years later...

I have never used that brand of oil, but their website makes me

scratch my head. Drying at 100F for 2-1/2 hours is not really going

to do that much drying. So I do not see why they dry the coconut.

They call their oil " virgin " . It is my understanding that VCO is

made from coconut, not copra.

They claim a shelf life of two years. Why so short? Is there water

in the oil? VCO aught to last a lot longer than that.

It does not look like a bad oil, and the price is quite reasonable. I

might try it sometime. But I doubt it is VCO.

BTW, you might want to ask them for their organic certificate from the

country where the coconuts are grown and the oil extracted. Organic

certificates from Oregon don't mean much as I doubt US inspectors are

going to the country of origin.

Alobar,

Thank you very much for your thorough assessment of the coconut oil. It is a

great help. I live in the UK and, coconut oil is very expensive here. I was

looking for a reasonable alternative source to purchase my coconut oil

I have not bought the VCO from Mt Rose but they have some very nice quality

products. They are also the type of company that if you have any questions

about their products then just ask & they will do their best to give the

answer or find it. So, I would email/call with your questions written down &

ask

away. Let us know the responses.
