Guest guest
Dolores, I don't wear anything but light weight sneakers too I find those heavy sneakers to heavy I stumble all over the place, Like yourself I run around the house in my socks. When necessary I wear a flat loafer for those dressy affairs. My feet have not gotten smaller but bigger I've had to increase my foot size to an 8 instead of 7 1/2.... Guest guest
Hi Ronnie, I just got a pair of Rockports. My first ones. I usually can't wear the sport style tennis shoe because they caused my foot to stick to the floor (the grip soles), but these don't have so much tread so they slide. They work better than any I've tried. I've already messed up the toes though, so I don't know how long they will last. I wear the rubber right off the ends of my shoes from dragging my toes. But I must say, these Rockports just don't get it for a dressy occasion :-) Thank goodness I don't go out fancy often. --- Ronnie Grove wrote: > , > > I am amazed when any of you talk about shoes. > Another one of our " little differences " . Guest guest
Oh, I agree with the dressy part. One reason I only wear slacks and try to find a nice pantsuit for dress up. I have these Rockports in white, wheat and black. Remember, I also have to have the left one built up an inch and a half, Normally, I just put the white ones on and wear them to death. On a special occasion and if I'm not too lazy, I will break down and drag out the wheat or black ones. I bought two new pair right before Christmas and finally got them to the place where they build them up. The ones I were wearing were really getting grungy so I broke out the black ones over Christmas. You would be surprised how many people at work commented on my " new shoes " . I just chuckled. I know they look better, but with the black shoes I have to decide if I am going to dig out the black socks, which is sorta silly because my brace is white and if you can see the brace, you can see the socks. It is ok if I am standing. I tell you, this whole PLS stuff does a bigger number on you if you can't swallow your pride and be thankful for what does work! In that respect, I am still me. I know how to dress, but I can't do that anymore, so I'm not going to worry about it. I dress for comfort and safety and try not to think how I look like my poor relatives! I hope there is more to me than a pair of shoes or a pretty dress. Ronnie Re: /shoes > Hi Ronnie, > I just got a pair of Rockports. My first ones. Guest guest
Hi , When I started wearing leather sole loafers, the front of the soles was wearing down from dragging like you, so I had the shoe repair store put taps on the toes. They glued and nailed them on. Saved a lot of money not having to replace soles all the time.I sanded down the front edges of the taps, so they would not catch on uneven surfaces. Worked pretty well for me. Guest guest
The hard part is finding a pair of ladies shoes with leather soles (that don't cost an arm and a leg) :-) Heck, I'd even give up my right arm and leg since they don't work that well anyway! I'll have to try a shoe repair store and see if they can salvage some of my shoes. Thanks Ken. ===== Thomson, Solana Beach, CA www.als-pls.org www.geocities.com/mdmfoo/pls.html __________________________________________________
Guest guest
When I was a runner, I used "Shoe Goo" to put on the bottom of my sneaker and extend the running life of the shoe. Not pretty, but may work. I find it a mystery that you can still wear sneakers. The way I currently walk, sneakers stick to the floor (instead of sliding) and make me unsteady. Leather bottoms work best for me, for now. Alan Kirk Re: /shoes Hi Ronnie, I just got a pair of Rockports. My first ones. Guest guest
I can't wear sneakers either. They stick to the floor. My feet stay in one place & the rest of me goes on!!! And then, of course I fall!!! Sometimes it's hard to find leather bottom shoes. Beth
Guest guest
Hi Beth, Most sneakers do that to me too, but I had to buy a pair for the houseboat trip I went on last summer and found that the ones that don't have any tread, like the old Keds, work pretty well. I test them out in the store before buying. If I can slide my foot around in the store I'm ok. The athletic type don't work at all for me. We have tile and wood floors in our house so I do fine at home. Carpet is harder, but then it seems to be harder whatever shoe I'm wearing.
