I took Synthroid for years before my TT.

I stopped it the day I had my surgery, and did not take any more until

after ablation. No Cytomel during that time either.

Total of 7 weeks + 1 or 2 days.

But my TSH before RAI was not as high as yours.

Does this help?

Off Medication - How Long?

If someone can re-assure me by saying they have been off meds for a

minimum of 7 weeks (for any reason) or even a maximum of up to 9

weeks, then I think I will be able to go back to sleep.

Hi Debbie,

I had my TT on July 21, 2000 and didn't get my RAI until Sep 22, 2000,

eight weeks later. And I didn't start on thyroid medication until the

following Monday, two more days later. My TSH after 3 weeks was 69. My

doctors didn't do another TSH until I'd been on medication for 8 weeks.

Hope that was helpful.

Debbie,

Due to circumstances totally outside my doctor's control, I was off

meds for just under 12 weeks before my last scan. As you might expect,

I was feeling _very_ hypo and pretty testy by the time the deed was

finally done, but no essential body parts fell off or anything. I

think it's safe to find more important stuff to keep you awake at

night :-).

Good evening,

Before the full body scan, in France, you have to stop all your medication for

28 days minimum (TSH going then from 0,002 to 281....) or the full body scan

don't work. Usualy it takes easily 5 to 7 weeks because they do not have that

much room in nuc med to accomodate patients so after the full 28 days you start

generaly on the waiting list !

It happend to me 3 times!

Luc -

Are you saying your TSH went up to 281 each time you were off meds???

It doesn't seem likely, but the only explanation that makes sense to me is if

there is perhaps a different number basis. Being off meds for 6 or 7 weeks is

pretty standard here in the States, but I'm pretty certain that TSH levels don't

often get that high.

On the other side, I've never heard anyone refer to their TSH level in anything

other than a decimal precision of 2 (ie: .08).

Does anyone know the answer to this? Ian?

Curiously,

I've been getting my results to 3 decimal places -- .006, .026, even

when hypo: 56.200 [now THERE's a real need for those 3 places! :) ]

Maybe the newer tests can get that added degree of precision so

they're reporting it now? whereas in some places or in earlier times

they couldn't & didn't?

Debbie,

I was off for 8 weeks for my RAI scan and ablation. I can only assume it

takes several months to get to a place where it was dangerous to be off your

thyroid hormone.

Off Medication - How Long?

Hi everyone,

I am awake at 1:00am in the morning, chomping over and over again at

the same question that has been bugging me since day one, and NO-ONE

appears to have an answer...... Maybe it is the way I have asked my

question. So I am now going to try a different approach.

What is the longest any-one has stayed off medication?

If someone can re-assure me by saying they have been off meds for a

minimum of 7 weeks (for any reason) or even a maximum of up to 9

weeks, then I think I will be able to go back to sleep.

Thanks

I was off all med's 9 weeks and 2 days after having a TT 2 years ago.

Reason? It took forever for my TSH to rise over 50.
