And welcome to the Church. :-) I was raised Catholic...but nada used it as a weapon, not a source of faith and guidance, you know? I left when I was 17...came back when I was 23 and have been back for 12 years now. I even did almost two years of mission work as a Catholic (with Catholic organizations). It was very very hard at first to come back simply because nada took it as a " compliment " to her, or as a " See, I told you I was right " sort of thing, when it really wasn't. Religion and spirituality are very personal, aren't they? Anyway, when I came back it was before I understood BPD so I was still at the same parish where she was/is. That parish was " home " , you know? Anyway, good for you for finding your own path and standing up for yourself.. And no one dare say anything different, or have any feelings or opinions of their own. I've had it drilled into me so long and so hard and from every angle that I've lost all desire to go to church. Eventually, I think that will not be the case. I just got so darn sick of hearing about it. Meaning that everyone else,including me and my husband and kids are all heatherns. She taught Bible studies and quoted scriptures all the time. After years of listening to her critisize other people, I finally asked her exactly which scripture is is that gives a person the right to judge other people. She was agast at my intended meaning. That shut her up on that subject, for awhile. I got real tired of her hypocracy on the subject of religion so I 'dropped out " of church for about 10 years. I am gradually going back (not to hers!) but I will not tell her that I am going. She thinks only her church and denomination are " real " Christians. I've even gone so far as to tell my husband that I don't want to meet up with them in heaven!
