So, I finally got to my first appointment at the Diabetic clinic of the city hospital and they told me that they didn't know who was telling me this, but since I was changing over to the VA they wouldn't see me. The foot clinic is still seeing me though. I really have a thing against the Diabetic clinic at the city hospital. First telling me that if I couldn't afford to be diabetic I should just kill myself, now telling me to basically " get lost " . Fortuneatly I am able to get into the VA a month earlier than expected. (Cancell that - just opened a letter telling me the appointment was cancelled and not reschedualled. I need to call tomorrow and see what's up.) > > > > > --- > > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.455 / Virus Database: 255 - Release Date: 2/13/2003 > >
Guest guest
My dad is seen at the VA in Durham and so far has no complaints about his care. They have caught things that might not have been at our hospital here. He does have some wait time, but so do we when we go to Duke with our son. I agree, take a little patience and remember that different hospitals treat people differently. Guest guest
What we have to remember is that we aren't always hearing the complete story. You can't email hospitals with complaints that have nothing to do with you. Doing it for your father is different from doing from a non family member. Guest guest
Chris The recession has finally trickled down to the VA and there have been mass layoffs. The classes are not considered essential and if there are not enough people signed up they will not hold them anyway. We have been thrilled with the care my husband has received at the VA up till now but yesterday he did not get to see his primary care physician and the lab work was not done in time to get the results while we were there. I am not suprised because if there are very many like us that get their care for FREE (we do have to pay a copay for meds) it has to make the budget curnch even worse. Don't let what I am saying discourage you because these are trying times we are all going thru at the moment. When the maddness is over and the economy is back to the good side you will find the VA is the best place for a diabetic to receive care. I have a friend that has serious problems. He is getting the best of care at the VA Hospital. There are probably other patients at this same hospital that is complaining that they are not getting the care they need. The same thing happens with all doctors, with all hospitals. This is not a perfect world. Hugs Eunice
Guest guest
I told private email about my Dad. He was not getting good care at the VA. We all emailed the VA. People from all over the country. The next time he went, he was transported from Pa. to Manhattan for an angioplasty. Chris----If I know what VA you go to, I may be able to get the email and we could all write to them. Let us know? -Londa
Guest guest
Over the past year on several lists the VA has been discussed and yes some are better than others. Yesterday we were in Saginaw, MI. Next week we have to go to AnnArbor, MI which is a much bigger facility. We were there last month so the cuts have happened in the last 30 days. We will see what it is like at that facility. Carolyn
Guest guest
I get my care at the va too and it's been very good over a long time. I only have hypertension and some asthma though and I'm sorry to hear they've been cutting back on staff. I usually just get my meds in the mail unless I think something is wrong and schedule an appointment. A lot of things play into this recession - war and terrorism fears have a dampening effect on almost world economies, and ours won't recover until the war fears are over. I know so many small business owners that are having trouble staying in business - I feel really sorry for them - and of course my wife's job is at risk too. Guest guest
Eunice, I am waiting for to let me know why the appointment was canceled w/o another being made. He said the local hospital won't treat him because he is going to the VA. .. No, it is not a perfect world. We can all do things to improve it. The records for my Dad were lost for a year and he lived with a coronary blockage for a year that should have been taken care of immediately. Within 24 hours of the VA hospital being emailed my Dad was transported to Manhattan from Pa. and the surgery was done immediately. If needs the VA " prompted " to give him care, for valid reasons, then I will make sure they are prompted. No one should be sick or die because we are too compassionate of overworked staff. IMO. I will wait and see what says. Not everyone can wait for a Congressman's response. Peace. Londa
