I registered with the Candida Society (because of treatment for

candida) and that gives me 25% in the Nutricentre.

Supplements are expensive here, there is nothing I know of that we can do about it.It's just our tough luck! Unless you fancy moving to the US!I don't have a solution for you, but if you work something out, let me know! Sorry!xxI've been looking at the recommended supplements, and I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but I did my sums and calculated that if I take the recommended supplements, I'll be spending £150 a month (I'm in the UK) which equates to about $300 a month. I really don't know what to do about this, the most expensive one is the Garden of Life which is 9 capsules a day, are there any multi vitamin supplements apart from Garden of Life which I can get in the UK a lot cheaper? are there any cheap sources of supplements out there? anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

Hi!

I can understand your frustration at the cost of supplements in the UK,

BeautifulSouth.

And there aren't many outlets. For anything out of the ordinary, it's

either Boots the Chemist or Holland and Barrett around here.

A while back, I thought I would save money by importing around US$150 of

Vitacost products.

Shipping was through UPS at a cost of $46.

The parcel (10.5 lbs) arrived soon enough but I was then hit with

charges for:

Value Added Tax of £19.16 ($38)

Import Duty of £9.04 ($18)

UPS Brokerage Surcharge of £11 ($22)

A total doorstep bill of nearly $80 - more than half the cost of the

vitamins!

Take care if you decide to buy overseas because import tariffs are a

ridiculously complicated area.

It seems scarcely believable that the duty for importing nutritional

supplements depends in part on the " milkfat, sucrose, isoglucose,

glucose or starch content " of the supplements.

I was charged the lower rate of 9% import duty on the supplements, and

then standard rate VAT at 17.5% on top of that. UPS, the couriers, then

kindly charged me the last £11 for collecting the duty on behalf of

Customs. Royal Mail charges just £4 for the same service.

Quite a few supplement suppliers are on ebay. Some are reputable, like

simplysupplements.co.uk

They are based on the Channel Islands, and don't charge extra for

shipping.

I don't see either of those liquid products in their catalogue, but

maybe they have something similar.

For more " regular " vitamins, e.g. Vitamin E 400IU capsules, I found the

supermarkets (e.g. ons) are often hard to beat on price (£2.50

for 60 capsules).

Good luck!

Rgds,

Sloopy!

It’s a really difficult one, I can stretch to the calcium and

magnesium and Omega (which I take already) but I don’t think I can stretch to

the “garden of Life”, I hope someone else from the UK comes on here and

recommends something good and reasonably priced over here. I just don’t know

wether Holland and Barratt or Boots are good enough quality or not.

I’ve ordered the magnesium and calcium from Nutricentre

(Solgar), fish oil think I’m going to stick with my Vegepa as it still works

out cheaper than Eskimo 3 and I think Vegepa is very good quality www.vegepa.com , I’ve asked my Dad to look up

in his “Which?” magazines for articles on multi vitamins, they’re usually good

for impartial advice.
