Guest guest
I've only been on the list for a couple of weeks, but welcome! I'm allergic to nuts, so I don't pay much attention to things with nuts, but I believe you can have peanut butter, but I don't know for sure how much or if you can have it on phase one. Okay, this answer is totally useless to you :- ) I usually bring my book to work with me, but I was so excited about it being Friday and all I ran out without it :-) It's like my Bible! I started phase 1 on Monday, too. I weigh every day. I can't help it. I have to :-) Becca Day 5 - Down 5 pounds! new here...?? peanut butter

 hello all

i am a newbie trying to find a group that will help motivate me...i
started phase 1 on monday weight at 312...I want to get down to
220...do you guys have a weight in every week or any challenges?

??/ about the diet my assistants husband said that the women at his
work are on this diet but eat tons of peanut butter and are losing it
fast...do any of you know anything about this?...i dont recall
anything in the book

perry
sw 335
cw 312 (monday--start of diet)
mg1 300
mg2 280
mg3 260
mg4 240
goal 220

Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nothing organized. The idea here is to reduce your weight by changing the way you eat, not by starving yourself in order to win a weekly competition. In Phase I, your diet is restricted for a couple weeks in order to help your body recover from insulin resistance due to the heavy carb overload it's been coping with. Thereafter, your diet returns to a healthy combination of good foods and weight comes off slowly, a pound or so a week, until you achieve your goal. So it's not a race. Motivation is important, of course. We all need encouragement and positive feedback. That's what this group is for, but it's not a good idea to push yourself faster than your body can efficiently cope with. You don't want to start a yo-yo effect, lose ten pounds - gain back eleven, over and over, which is just as unhealthy as your old eating habits that packed on all those pounds in the first place. Go slow and easy. Enjoy your food. Don't starve yourself. Try new recipes. Have fun with it. And watch those pounds fall away in a comfortable and natural way. I love that part, myself. ??/ about the diet my assistants husband said that the women at his work are on this diet but eat tons of peanut butter and are losing it fast...do any of you know anything about this?...i dont recall anything in the book Yup, it's true. You can eat peanut butter and still lose weight. I like to put it on celery stalks myself. It allows me to feel both virtuous and indulgent at the same time. On page 50 of "The South Beach Diet", in a section entitled "A Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich", Dr. Agatstaon says, "The least harmful part of this classic is the peanut butter, of course. It's a good source of monunsaturated fat. It contains resveratol, too, the same phytochemical that makes red wine beneficial as a protection against heart disease and cancer. Peanut butter also contains folate, which helps you to metabolize homocysteine, a byproduct of protein metabolism that otherwise can harm the cardiovascualr system. The drawbacks to commercially processed peanut buitter are that bad fats - saturated ones - are sometimes added, and so is sugar. It's best to stick to all-natural peanut butter." In the Phase I meal plan, under the list of "Foods to Enjoy", Dr. Agatston rccommends no more than 2 tablespoons of peanut butter per day. That can go up in Phase II. I like All-Natural, myself. It contains nothing but peanuts and a little bit of salt. It's the kind you have to stir and refrigerate. The stuff that stays in suspension unrefrigerated does so by adding partially hydrogenated oils that are way bad for you. The glycemic index for peanuts is 21, which is less than that of tomatoes (23).__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Yes, 2 tablespoons of all natural peanut butter is allowed. However, I do not see anywhere on the South Beach Site where this increases in any phase? In fact some people do note stalls when eating "too much" cheeses and nuts. <<??/ about the diet my assistants husband said that the women at his work are on this diet but eat tons of peanut butter and are losing it fast...do any of you know anything about this?...i dont recall anything in the book>> No you are not allowed to eat unlimited peanut butter. Guest guest
You are allowed to have more PB (than the 2tbsp limit) if you are replacing your protein from a meal with PB. I personally wouldn't give up meat or cheese for PB,lol. PB can cause certain individuals to stall if over eaten. > Is that 2 tablespoons per day?
