Hi, Sue,

I went to google and searched for persantine and this site

popped up at the head of the list

http://www.torrancememorial.org/carivp.htm

The one thing I would add is they say it's for people who can't take

the treadmill test because of coronary artery disease. Before that

scares you, consider that someone here posted that in their case the

reason was a bad foot or something.

I think you are like me - have a tendency to freak at the unknown

esp. if you are stressed in general. I would try to do some

relaxation stuff, or call your doc's office and ask the nurse to

explain exactly what to expect. On second thought, the hospital dept

that does hte test is perhaps a better place to call, the nurse there

will probably be glad to explain everything.

Yes, I've had meds change my sense of taste. I could have used that

lasting a little longer :-)

What's NPO mean?

Hi Sue,

This was one of my many tests that were used to determine my afib and

heart reaction. My memory is somewhat vague - the reason I did not

respond earlier.

The test actually consists of two - but because I like to get this

kind of thing behind me, I opted to have both done the same day. It

is a test most frequently performed for patients in permanent afib -

a treadmill is of little help - I was told.

I was supposed to appear in the hospital before 8 am - no food - but

meds were ok. The total procedure lasted until abt. 2 / 3 pm , but

most of the time was spent waiting. You will receive an injection

for each test - If I remember correctly, one is to observe the blood

flow, the other to observe the heart under stress. Pictures of the

heart will be taken each time, and in my case a cardiologist was

present at all times. Actually, at one point between tests I was

allowed to have breakfast which was provided by the hospital.

I am not sure whether all persantine tests follow the same procedure.

In my case - I was told, that my formerly enlarged and weakened heart

was now back to normal and working within normal range.

This is not a painful procedure - . - and really nothing to worry

about. It will give your doc a clear picture what is going on with

your heart.

So take it easy, and good luck

H i, Just put " Persantine Stress Tess " , with quotes around it into your

search engine and it will bring it up so you can read all about it.

Peggy

Hi all,

It would be a big help if someone out there who had this type of

persantine stress test would explain how it is done. I have no clue.

It takes 2 days but i dont know why. Tomorrow i'm supposed to go to

the Radiology Dept. of the hospital and be NPO for 12 hours

beforehand. Then on Tues. i have to go back at the same time and

also be NPO. I cant find anything on the web about it. Not sure where

to look or which sites have the most info.

Also, anyone experience a loss of taste or no appetitie from meds?

Nothing appeals to me anymore or tastes quite right. Guess thats good

since i'll lose weight from it. I get nauseaus at night around 8pm

for some reason too. Sometimes i think neds are toxic and herbs are

the way to go. Then again, probably not.

Again, any help with this PERSANTINE MILI stress test would be much

appreciated!!

Thanks, SUE

Sue,

I found out everything I needed to know before my Persantine Cardiolite

Stress Test, by going to this web page:

www.agmc.org/hrtprep/persan.htm

This will give you all sorts of information. I printed out three pages from

this site before I had my test in Nov. 2001.

By the way, what is NPO?

Thanks, i will look that up. I got another great link from and

help from too. Thank you all. Nerves get the best of me and i

panic from the unknown. (who doesnt right?)

NPO means " nothing by mouth " , food or liquids. An order docs write

before any surgery or many types of test. Usually its NPO after

midnight, or NPO for 12 hrs before, etc...Sometimes if you need to

take your meds the doctor/nurse will tell you to take them with a sip

or 2 of water.
