Guest guest
I've been taking CLO for a long time because of the health benefits of it. I use to dread taking it because the taste was so nasty. I found that a big drink of kombucha helped get rid of the bad taste in my mouth. Then I ordered some CLO from Wilderness Family Naturals. It actually tasted good and had none of the nasty fishy taste at all. My kids liked it and would take it. I decided to try the coconut oil from Green pastures and ordered some of the blue ice CLO along with it. I liked the coconut oil fine but still prefer the fermented product from Wilderness Family. However the CLO is not very good. It is high vitamin but the taste about gags me. I'll choke down the bottle but am going to reorder CLO and coconut oil from Wilderness Family unless I find there's some other brand that actually tastes half way decent. I tried some Twin Lab CLO from the local vitamin shop and the Blue Ice tastes every bit as nasty as that. Some people may like that fishy taste but I don't at all and neither do my kids. I cannot fathom how anyone, unless they hate cinnamon, can not like this cod liver oil. Guest guest
Is the cinnamon flavor very spicy? My 3 year old won't take it if it is. I was going to order the orange flavor. To be honest, none of it sounds too tasty. We're finishing up a bottle of Nordic naturals peach flavor right know and I too have to hold my nose and drink kombucha afterwards. Kombucha will kill the taste of most anything! It didn't seem to have any fishy taste at all to me. I'll keep that in mind before I insist anyone else buy a bottle of it because it doesn't taste fishy! I've been taking the orange flavor CLO from WFN and it's very smooth tasting, but I'd like to switch to a higher vitamin CLO.

But I don't think I'm all that sensitive to flavor. I wonder also if it might depend on the age of the bottle or how it was stored? Fresh fish never smells all that fishy, but old fish smells terrible. The oil's probably the same way. The Garden of Life stuff I used a while back was the only one I've had that tasted fishy... I quit using it because it seemed a bit off. Anyhow, if it tastes really bad to you then maybe that feeling's worth listening to. Maybe you could try a bottle from a different supplier? The orange flavor is very <cough> subtle <cough>. I've heard suggestions to add forty drops of orange essential oil per bottle ofGreen Pastures plain clo to make it taste decent, but I've never tried it. I'll agree clo isn't altogether pleasant, but I always lick my spoon clean, so something's shifted somewhere. Anyway, it's just a teaspoon or so. B. [Mike] For several years I've been enjoying the Quantum CLO (previously known as Premiere) and I rather enjoy the flavor. My first ever bottle of CLO was Twin Labs from a vitamin shop and after that I've exclusively used Quantum because my understanding was that it was Sally's recommended brand and the best quality on the market. I haven't checked into the topic since then (about 2-3 years ago) but apparently there are a few other equally good brands I see people refer to often on NN, etc. The Twin Labs wasn't a pleasant flavor for me and when I tried the Premiere (Quantum) the difference was extremely noticeable. It tasted radically ****fresher**** and I quickly grew to enjoy it. However, I do enjoy virtually every possible food flavor (save perhaps the most extreme gym-sock cheese), including fishy flavors. It's really sad that so many people have an aversion to fishy and oceany flavors. It's like if cows didn't like the smell of grass. With the right attitude and some patience, it's fairly easy to adapt one's flavor preferences though. For example, I used to have a total gag reaction to pure chunks of fat (like on duck, beef, etc) and similar soft textures several years ago (pre-NT), but now I can easily enjoy eating a chunk of fat off the side of a steak by itself. I tried to reorder from WFN but the CLO was out of stock. I bought some from Omega instead. I hope it's decent quality. I didn't even think about Quantum. I buy other supplements from them and find them to be of the highest quality so I guess their CLO would be also. I'll add a bottle onto my next order from them and give it a try. Guest guest
Hello Can I suggest you try a flavor that covers the fish flavor. the Organic Cassia (cinnamon) covers the fishy taste as does the arctic mint. The Orange is a very mild or close to neutral in taste. some can still taste the fish when taking the orange flavored CLO. because of the vitamin potency of the High Vitamin CLO you will have to take about 5-10 times less volume for the vitamin nutrients compared to many other brands. We have another new clo product that will be available later this month that will have 5000A/500D per 1ml blended with 100mg of High vitamin Butter oil . the current High vitamin CLO product has 5700A/540D per 1/2 teaspoon. I'm not sure what the Wilderness product has for vitamin content but I think it is some where around 1400 iu's of vitamin A per TEASPOON. I'm with you of the fish flavored clo. it is not my favorite. but many people prefer this product and are accustomed to fresh fish flavor. plus many prefer to have a natural product. some people will muscle test better with a non-flavored product or one flavor muscle tests stronger than another. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the response. I have the cinnamon flavor but find that it doesn't cover the fishy taste. I guess I will just try to get use to it like someone else suggested. The Wilderness product has around 2200 IU's of vitamin A if I remember correctly. I was taking 5 teaspoons/day but the taste was pleasant and I didn't mind at all. Maybe I will try the Arctic mint next time I order butter oil. I was wondering last night if there is an advantage to taking high vitamin CLO as opposed to more of the regular CLO. One tsp. of high vitamin will yield about the same vitamin A as 5 tsp. of the other but you will be getting much less omega 3 fatty acids since you are consuming less oil. Wouldn't it be better to consume 5 tsp. of the other so you would get the same A but more omega 3's? Or should one also take a fish oil supplement to get omega 3's when consuming high vitamin CLO? By the way, my morning dose of the cinnamon flavor didn't seem quite so bad. Maybe I am getting used to it. >Hello > >Can I suggest you try a flavor that covers the fish flavor. the Organic >Cassia (cinnamon) covers the fishy taste as does the arctic mint. My opinion, not written in stone but based on what I've seen so far, is that you want the high-vitamin oil for precisely the converse of the reason you suggest. Omega-3s are a double-edged sword, and you need the vitamin A to protect them from causing harm.
