Guest guest
Go to your local health food store and you’ll find the flax seed meal (it’s already ground for you and works great in the cereal for texture and other good stuff). I get a pretty large bag (about the size of a bag of powdered sugar) for a couple dollars. It will last you a very long time. Joyce - Ohio Ricotta Hot Cereal Hi, I tried the Ricotta " hot cereal " today. I didn't add the flaxseed, because I didn't know what it was or why it was called, and when I found it at the pharmacy with the vitamins (none at the supermarket) a bag cost $10, so I just left it out. Anyway....I loved it. Of course, I do have really odd taste, but I did love it! Betty Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. Does it have some nutritional value, or is it just for texture? Betty in RI
Guest guest
But what is it for? Does it have some nutritional value, or is it just for texture? morning, while doing atkins the past two years, prior to just beginning southbeach, i became very familiar with flaxseed and wound up loving it.. and its benefits.. and started integrating it in many of my recipes. the main benefit for ME and there are MANY ... is regularity. Flax Seed - Benefits of Flax Seed in Heart Disease and Cholesterol Lowering besides heart disease and cholesterol lowering, it has recently been stated that i MAY aid in slowing the progression of Alzheimers Disease as well. something impt. though... it spoils RAPIDLY ESPECIALLY in the ground state. what i learned... that is best.. is to purhcase it whole, and keep in in your FREEZER and only use the amount that you will need. I just put mine in a small coffee grinder.. (that i use JUST for the flax) and in a second or two... you have flax meal. hth smiles from jodi in miami "A beautiful woman is the hell of the soul, the purgatory of the purse, and the paradise of the eyes." ~~ Fontenelle

Wow! I'm gonna get me some! <grin> I haven't checked my cholesterol since going on SB, but it has been an issue in the past, so this sounds like a plan. Does the flax count as a good carb, to be reintroduced in Phase 2? If I have the flax meal, does that mean in the beginning stages of Phase 2, I wouldn't be able to have any bread or whole wheat pasta, or brown rice for the day?
