Guest guest
Sue Ellen, That is great news about your local MDA. It seems as if we are just banging our heads against a wall when talking to them about the PLS issue, but it sounds as if it is actually doing some good!! Maybe it is worth the headache (play on words here, hehe) of arguing with them. Guest guest
Dear Group, The issue of mycoplasmas is intriguing. They have been shown to be related to lots of maladies, among them being ALS, cancer and fibromyalgia . Is it coincidence that I have all three of these? That opens a whole new can of worms, doesn't it? This sounds very promising, maybe they'll be able to find a common toxic episode that links these. WithDoD interested in it now some big money could be directed at finding thelink. I've read several interesting articles online about a pathogen called"mycoplasmas" which NIH is currently studying as related to GWI and it hasalso been found in ALS patients. You might want to look at some of thosearticles, several can be found on the website for one of the vitamincompanies Thomson has on the PLS fund-raising website. Also, my local MDA has a new Health Care Services Coordinator who says I cango to the ALS clinic here! She says she talked to a lady at national whosaid, although it is not currently a covered disease, there are many clinicswho are seeing PLS patients and it would be fine if I wanted to go to theclinic here. Don't give up talking to the MDA, she said you still have towork thru your local Health Care Services coordinator.Regards, Sue Ellen Ledford <<Environment News Service Gulf War ServiceLinked to Lou Gehrig's Disease.html>>

Guest guest
On his ALS website Steve Shackel has a section on mycoplasmas with mention of places which can do the specialised testing necessary. I had some tests done which showed some mycoplasma and also chlamydia pneumoniae infection so went to a doctor over here who specialises in that area. For several months I was on various strong antibiotics but did not really notice any difference. I still feel like my mind is the biggest contributor to my PLS so have been working on that area. If I felt that mycoplasma or chlamydia infection really played a big part in my PLS and if the oral antibiotics had made any difference I would/should have gone on to IV antibiotics. Even so, I feel it is an area that people with PLS should follow up for themselves if possible. Dolores Carron wrote: Dear Group,The issue of mycoplasmas is intriguing. Guest guest
I have a P.S. to my previous message about mycoplasmas. They are responsible for "walking" pneumonia. I don't think I ever had that, but the winter before I developed my foot drop, I had at least 5 viral infections. I had laryngitis for about a month, and also had a cough that would cause my throat to spasm. I am not prone to chest things--colds are rare, but are always head colds when they occur. When I had that unusual cough and throat spasm, believe it or not, I was diagnosed as having "kennel cough"--yep!! just like dogs have. My treatment was asthma drugs and inhalers. Who knows what that was all about? Dolores Carron Environment News Service Gulf War Service Linked to Lou Gehrig's Disease.html Hi everyone, Found the following attachment in our paper. Guest guest
Ironic that someone with PLS which makes walking difficult/impossible gets something called Walking Pneumonia!
