Guest guest
Thanks for the comment. I know that I cannot cheat the a1c test, that is why I need to have it done. But, when he does not give it to me, that is when I might slip back to some nasty old habits. Even for the overall entire picture is why I wanted to know if anyone else thought it was a mandatory test. I am glad you explained how the test reads 3 months prior. I knew it did, I just never knew how or way. a
Guest guest
Even if you have brilliant control for first 3 years you should have it done every 3 months. Just my opinion. Guest guest
Hi, Hate to disappoint you, but you can't cheat on the a1c test because it gives an average of your blood glucose for the past 3 months. Glucose attaches to red blood cells in relation to the amount in the blood and is quantified with the other tests. It is important to keep the glucose levels within range for the reasons of complications such as eye disease, heart disease, poor circulation to the hands and feet to name a few. I ask for the a1c test because it confirms if I have been ok for the last 3 months. The daily testing is essential to make sure things are going ok internally. Wild swings would indicate eating the wrong things, medication needs to be modified or changed or some other problems internally. I've been lurking for a while. I looked over my progress over the past year and noticed that modifying my eating helped my blood glucose, and exercise (walking daily) made the biggest positive difference. Hope everyone is doing well or attaining their goals. Stan

Not only would I be doing damage with high numbers, but my weight would also go back up and I don't want that to happen. I do think it is important to get the HbA1c done at each diabetes related visit, and at least every 4 months if someone is not in control of bg's. Hi all: Hope everyone is sweet but their sugars aint high! I had a doctor visit yesterday. Every time I see him he sends me away with instructions to get a blood test before coming to my next checkup. I have no idea what the codes mean and they seem to draw the same amount of vials each time. Well, I was pretty surprised when he gave me a copy of the test and there was no result for the Hab1c (Sorry I never get that right but I think you all know what I mean.) To me that is the Bible of the test. To me, a non medical person, that is the one that gives the whole picture. The blood test was otherwise wonderful. But at fasting my sugars are always going to be low. I could easily get into a pattern of being good the day before the test and being bad all 3 months between test and the doctor would not know. I made sure he checked for that test this time. The good news is he has lengthened the time between my visits from 10 weeks to 4 months. I wont try and get a month in of cheating though. I got to be good for me! Does anyone else feel that the Hab1c test should be done every time? a
Guest guest
So how did you manage to get your fasting sugar down??? I'm the same way as you were - the waking hours are fine, it's just that first test of the day that I can't seem to get under. Deanna I had the most trouble figuring out whay I had to do to get my fasting sugar down. The rest of the day wasn't difficult, but managing the fasting sugar for me was. Now I'm happy to say it's finally below 125 consistantly. Loretta

Do you usually get good readings after breakfast? If so, you could consider the 4 am meal as breakfast rather than a snack, but eating low carbs. When are you scheduled for the test? My prayers are that everything will be fine with you. Hugs Eunice
Guest guest
> I am kind of new to this club. However, I have a problem maybe one of > you can help me out with. I think that you hit the nail on the head when you said get up at 4am to have a snack. I think that is your only option. That should bring your sugars in to a normal range by the test time (remember to take any breakfast meds at this time). 4 am sucks, but it is only one day and this sounds like it is an important test. ~ Jayd

Mine is just the opposite. My b/s is fine all day, but too high in the morning. I'd like to get it down lower, but don't know how to do it. I'm not on meds.
