Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I've often wondered what effect alcohol would have on my walking. Since I already weave and stagger I've always thought that the alcohol just would make me walk more drunk. But - I've also wondered if the alcohol would loosen me up some & I wouldn't be so stiff. But - almost all of my meds say to not mix with alcohol so.... I guess I'll never know. Beth
Guest guest
I read somewhere that red wine contains a good anti-oxidant. Dark chocolate too. I guess not everything that tastes good is (completely) bad for you. I drink 1 or 2 glasses of red wine a night with/after dinner. Sometimes something stronger. No noticeable, unexpected effects. Alan Kirk Re: alcohol When I picture a drunk, I see a person stumbling andslurring their words. We do that already :-) I dodrink red wine occasionally, but limit it to one glassand always have something to eat with it. Before I started using my cane I heard enough remarksthat 'I'd obviously had too much to drink' to leave alasting impression. Since I have to be carefulwalking, drinking just seems to be an "accidentwaiting to happen". And as said, alcohol andmost meds don't mix. ===== Thomson, Solana Beach, CAwww.geocities.com/mdmfoo/pls.html__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Ken, Thanks for your reply! I'm sure that without the meds my legs would be like 2 pieces of wood. I know that people think with all the meds I take then I should be able to walk normally. But this is as normal as I'm going to get!!! Do you take Baclofen and Zanaflex? What doses? What other meds? Guest guest
Ken: Thanks for your comments on taking muscle relaxers. I have been struggling to increase my combination of Zanaflex and Baclofen to control my spasticity but get SO sleepy. I have been on a 3X a day regimen but for a couple of days I've divided my dosage into 4X a day and experienced less sleepiness. in Texas
Guest guest
Hi , This is Beth! What is your dosage of Zanaflex & Baclofen? I tried to take both of them together with disastrous results. Now I take a total of 24 mg. of Zanaflex a day. And I take it 3x a day. I take the larger amounts when I know I can sit down and go to sleep. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your reply!!! I don't know if I told you or not but I had tried Baclofen & Zanaflex together with disastrous results. I almost ended up in the ER with low blood pressure and almost passing out!! Have you tried either one or the other alone? I did. Zanaflex seems to work the best for me. The only thing that I can tell you to do is to spread the doses out which you already do. When I worked it was torture trying to stay awake. Now I just take the 8 mg. & the 12 mg. dosages at a time when I can be here at home or going to bed & then it is OK if I fall asleep. I take my small 4 mg. in the morning after I get up. Sometimes I still fall asleep in the evening watching TV but that may not be the Zanaflex. It might just be plain old fatigue. Take care. Guest guest
Beth and ,and anyone else who cares to comment, Please educate me. I have now read on the website about several PLSers who take Zanaflex and Baklofen in combination. I am confused, since both are designed to do the same thing, what do you gain by not sticking with just one or the other and toughing out the sleep issue until your body can handle the dosage level or just building up the dosage more slowly? Ken Auer Re: alcohol Beth: You won't believe this, but until now I've only been able to tolerate 5mg Baclofen with 1mg Zanaflex (2X a day) and a night dosage of 10 mg Baclofen with 2 mg of Zanaflex. If I go any higher on dosage during the day, I can't stay awake. However, I now find that I can take the 5 & 1 (3X a day) and 10 & 2 at night with success. It really doesn't totally take care of my spasticity but it helps. I don't think I could keep up with 5 doses a day but may have to try that. Do you have anything else to suggest? Does anyone else? in Texas
Guest guest
Most diabetics can drink moderate amounts of alcohol. However, many cocktails contain a lot of sugar--sours, collinses, old fashionds and frozen drinks like margaritas and daquiris especially. Sweet liquours (creme d'menthe, amaretto, etc.) are out also. Beer is very high in carbs. Count a typical glass of beer as a carb exchange. (Beer is sometimes called 'liquid bread'.) Dry wines are OK, but be careful with sweet or fortified wines (sherry, port, madiera). The ideal cocktails for diabetics would be martinis or gin and tonics made with diet quinine water. As always, YMMV. Alcohol What does alcohol do to a diabetic? A friend of mine wants to take me out for a few drinks. Shnops and i's mostly What will that do to me? Guest guest
Bichelob Ultralight and Lite hardly count as real beer. You know the old joke? " Why is American beer like making love in a canoe? Answer: Both are f---ing near water.
