Guest guest
Hi all. I see that the Metrika A1c monitor is now available w/o a prescription. It says it take 8 minutes for results and costs about $25.00 I think this is a great tool to have and I am considering purchasing one. Has anyone else thought about it? Kinda looking for pros and cons before I purchase it. Thanks Carole in Las Vegas Acceptable levels I have type 2 diabetes and would like some information on the acceptable levels of blood sugar. i exercise a great deal and in the late afternoon after i have excercised my sugar test is about 120 but when i wake in the morning its about 170. Guest guest
Hey Carole, Is that $25.00 per test plus the initial cost of the meter? Mike > Hi all. Guest guest
To Jeniffer and Mike. , the A1c test is very important to diabetics. It test the average amount of sugar in your system for the last 2-3 months. I just went to the lab and had it done and my last one was 6.2. Six months ago, at diagnosis, I was 9.4. Mike, or anyone interested, go to Metrika.com. It looks to me that you get the testing equipment and one appliacation for $25.00. You can get two applications for about $48.00. As with strips, I am sure the meter is not that expensive, but the application to test will be. However, for those of us who want tight control, this, to me, is a bargain. Guest guest
Is it a one time blood test? Do you just have to take your blood one time? -- Re: Re: Metrika A1c monitor In a message dated 1/6/2003 10:06:42 PM Eastern Standard Time, GhstAngelTx@... writes: > I have never had a AC1 test done be for Hi If you are going to a new doctor this week, I'm sure he/she is going to do the HbA1c test. Guest guest
Okay, I went out and looked. Interesting. The meter itself is disposable, one-time use only. I think I'll pass for now though. I get that done every three months right now at the lab and it costs me nothing. Now if every three months they want to mail me one for the same price ($0) so I don't have to go to the lab and just phone the results in to them, I'll be all over that! I can imagine it would be really a great thing for people without or with little insurance. I really hope that it doesn't do the same as removing the need for a prescription for Claritin though. Now you can get it at the pharmacy with no script, it costs a fortune and no-one's insurance will pay for non-drowsy allergy meds anymore. We really need to revamp medical care in this country! It's looking to me like the drug companies are gaining more and more control. <stepping off soapbox> Mike > > Hi all. I see that the Metrika A1c monitor is now available w/o a > > prescription. However, for those of > us who want tight control, this, to me, is a bargain. Also, if you bought this monitor for youself, you would only need to test about once a month. If A1c covers 2-3 months, then testing too frequently (once an week) wouldn't give you much more information than last week. ~ Jayd (don't I seem chatty today...there have got to be about 5 replies in a row from me
