Guest guest
Last month I had 30 episodes of AF, lasting from 2-6 hours each. Early last week I called the EP and ask if I could try cardizem, I had some on hand, they said sure if it is 180mg but not 240mg. I had both. Since I have been on cardizem this is my 5th day of getting up without af and so far none during the day. I have put my AF calender on my yahoo page. I took the company calendar which the week starts on Saturday and have added blue hearts for the resting AF and pink hearts for the active AF. http://photos.yahoo.com/nelrad43 Just click on Afib calendar, it should be the first album that you see. Feeling great and loving it. The only way that I can tell that I am taking Cardizem, is that I am having less episodes. Nellie Sue

Guest guest
Nellie, What is the difference between resting AF and active Af? Resting AF is when I get AF when I go to bed or wake up with it. Active is when I am up and around. Only once was it exercised induced and I was trying to walk a fast mile and it got me a little over half way. Most of mine seem to have no reason. It happens if I drink coffee or don't drink coffee, so i just drink de-caff and get on with it. I can function pretty good in Afib until it get to about 120 bpm and then it just wears me out. Guest guest
Thanks for answering my question. I have AF only a couple of times a tear but have skipped heartbeats a lot of the time. I also have given up coffee, tea and alcohol even though I don't know if they are triggers or not. > >Reply-To: AFIBsupport >To: AFIBsupport >Subject: Re: Cardizem >Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2003 20:19:58 -0000 > > >Nellie, What is the difference between resting AF and active Af? > >Resting AF is when I get AF when I go to bed or wake up with it. >Active is when I am up and around. Guest guest
I am in my 97th hour of AF, and I take cardizen cd 180, the doctor told me to take an extra on yesterday, I did and am still in AF. Will call again today. I am suppose to take a ultrafast CT scan on Thursday and if in AF they can't do it because the reading would be wrong, or so I was told. Any suggestions...have tried a bowl of icewater over my head, a cold shower, that wasn't cold because of the Texas heat, coughing, almost standing on my head and exercise. Nellie Sue Good morning Nellie I can only speak for myself but now it seems like you may need an antiarrythmic in addition to your Cardizem. I can't believe you have gone this long without them trying something else? I was on Cardizem after my first bout of A fib... when it returned a few weeks later I was put on Rhythmol in addition (150 mg twice daily) and have been A fib free for over 2 months now:) It may be worth a call to your doctor..... Best of luck to you!!! Robbie **~~** Proud to be an American **~~**

Hi Robbie, I have been on Rythmol and Amiodarone. The rythmol worked great for a couple of years and the amiodarone helped keep the AF short, but it didn't help the number of episodes that I had. I am going to see an EP tomorrow. Thanks for your reply. Nellie Sue

You just take a big deep breath and hold it in and press down, or bear down hard, as hard as you can. Imagine that you are making your heart hold still. When you can't hold it any more, then breath out, breath in, prehaps twice, to catch your breath, and then again, take a big deep breath in and hold it and press down. You can feel the increased pressure in your lower chest. Try to do it 4 or 5 times. Sometimes it works. It's called Valsalva Maneuver. Hope you feel better. Let us know. I'll tell you it feels wonderful to be in NSR. I had tried the bearing down, but didn't know about the deep breaths, so will try that next time...ns
Guest guest
Sorry, my msg to you disappeared in the post. I was on 360 of cardizem, so the Dr's Rx of an extra 180 is not going to harm you to take for several days, of course with the Dr's permission. Cardizem stopped working for me and I ended up on tikosyn (class III antiarrhythmic). Still had to take cardizem for 3 mo and toprol dosage has been cut, but can't do w/o it as yet. You may just have to postpone the CT scan until you can get the heart under control. Are you trying relaxation techniques? Good luck at the Dr. Cheryl > > I am in my 97th hour of AF, and I take cardizen cd 180, the doctor > > told me to take an extra on yesterday, I did and am still in AF. No I didn't try the relaxation techniques, other than falling asleep. Lots of times if I just doze off it will stop. But than that was when I was on amiodarone. ns
