Guest guest
There is a web-site on which you can get an analysis of your daily food intake and see how it compares to the latest recommendations. Click on to the Healthy Eating Index at www.usda.gov/cnpp/ . You enter the foods and portion sizes and get a calculation of 25 different nutrients and then can analyze if in four different ways. The data base contains 7,500 different foods. Entering the foods can be time consuming, but the results are well worth the effort. Your calculation can be compared to the Food Guide Pyramid, Nutrient Intakes , and Healthy Eating Index (HEI) and if you stick with it by entering your menus each day, you'll be able to track your progress with graphs for the 20 days of information that can be saved. Note: entering the foods is not always exact; for instance, there is no raisin toast, so you have to choose what you think is closest to it. Also, portion sizes are limited; I tried to enter 4 ounces of orange juice, but only 1 cup was available as a choice. The vegetables all tended to be 1 cup, as well. Although it's not exact, the calculation will give you an indication if you're on the right road or not. Dolores
