It runs in our family and my brother has it and my mom and my grandmother... so I come by it naturally. I have it ALL over my legs so they itch like I have 2,000 misquito bites on a GOOD day... not to mention the bad ones. Then I got diabetes and the itching intensified a LOT. Then I starting eating right and the itching lessened a LOT, Back in the early fall when I starting eating off the diet again, the itching came back and I am now convinced that it is at least worsened by the diabetes and how I eat. My highest a1c has been 6.8 so that's proof enough for me that carbs can affect it. I am holding on for a way to get on Enbrel.. which is a drug for what I have but I can't afford it. It's $2200 and my insurance doesn't cover medication. My doctor thinks that it would give me a 75 - 90% recovery from the type of arthritis I suffer from and from the psoriasis. The psoriasis COVERS my legs and is getting on my feet so my doc is VERY afraid of when my diabetes worsens that I will have wounds that will not heal ALL over my legs and feet... and as a result could lose my limbs if I am not careful. SO that is what is motivating me lately to do better. Pain is one thing... chronic, intense itching is another. Pain is difficult but there is something that almost makes you lose your mind with itching that won't let up... I didn't even know until a few months ago that it was a symptom of diabetes. Guest guest
OH Shirley!! Bless your heart! I cannot imagine living with that everyday - the intense itching - it does make you nearly lose your mind sometimes. When I have a rash or chronic itching periodically, I dump a half box of baking soda in the bathwater and just soak - is that something you can do, or not? I know nothing about psoriasis except that I hope and pray I never have it. I've been having some back pain due to what my doc thinks is osteoarthritis, but I discovered I had forgotten to open a new bottle of glucosamine, and since I've been back on it, things are improving some, so it is something that I can get relief from, even by sitting down. But oh my goodness - I really feel for you!!! Carol in NC Re: itching..... In a message dated 1/4/03 11:12:54 AM Eastern Standard Time, cld60@... writes: > Do any of you itch? Guest guest
I always thought before the diagnosis that I just had the worst skin on earth! I have to use lotion several times a day just to keep up with the itching, it helps some, and every once in a while I get horrible rashes that last for months. I am allergic to perfumes and things anyway, I can't use most soaps, detergents, deoderants, etc. Once I find something I am not allergic to we stick with it until they quit making it or change the formula, then the trials start all over! But once I was diagnosed and found out about the itching I keep an eye on it and find a direct correlation between my BG levels and the itching. It's definately not one of the more enjoyable sides of this disease. Mike > > > HI groups.. > > Last summer I posted an email to the diabetes list and asked about > itching. Guest guest
Ok I have a question about this also. I have endured a lifetime of extremely dry skin. Painful itching etc. I have been to the doctor as well. Been through all the tests for this and that. One doctor says heat rash , another says a bacterial infection and so on.I have dealt with this since I was very , very young as my mom has told me. And nothing seems to help at all. In dry times weather wise it is pretty bad. I was told that I had a strep infection - group b strep that is. Took some antibiotics and it eased a bit. But since has came back full force and worse actually. Because I too have developed patches of reddish blisters. That are pretty painful. When they do go away it is bruised and hurts for quite awhile. I have been tested for diabetes myself and all comes out fine. By urine dip as well as blood work up. After fasting mine ranges from 78-86 and after meals etc. it has never went over 145. So the doctors tests as well as the ones that hubby and I have done have ruled out sugar levels being the culprit. There is not one thing that aggravates it more than the other . Other than extreme dry weather be it cold or hot. It does not discriminate either. Back , stomach , arms etc. Like I said it can bother me for a day , sometimes days on end and then I can go awhile and not have any problems. The only thing left to do is maybe decrease caffeine intake or deplete it greatly. I know it is not allergies. Because if it is I would be allergic to everything. We have been using anti-bacterial soaps and so on. Since my husband was diagnosed as being diabetic. I have treated him and myself both as being diabetics. I cannot indulge on things he cannot have and feel right about it etc. The only thing left is Coke. I drink regular and he of course now drinks diet drinks. There is something about artificial sweeteners that just gives me migraines out of this world. I cannot even drink Kool-Aid as it is a powdered drink etc. So do any of you have suggestions for this itchy feeling ? I am at a loss and so is hubby. As he tires of hearing me say " I itch " . LoL Thanks for all the great info. that you all have offered !! Rob and Stacey
Guest guest
I had a itch on my lower front part of my leg lower calf. But it never got liquid blisters just an itching rash type thing and it finally went away but left it's scar and I've had that for years now. My cousin who died had a similar thing happen to her but she drank alot of alcohol and said it was from a blood infection. So it's a mystery to me. Could be poor circulation. Guest guest
In UK, treatment for eczema that is popular and works are cutting out dairy products and drinking a special chinese herbal tea that only a chinese medicine practitioner or doctor can prescribe. Guest guest
Hello, Before being diagnosed with Diabetes, I had a strange rash on my leg that got worse and worse. Eventually it looked really bumpy and the whole area looked more like a burn than anything (purply-red and almost like blisters but not full of liquid). Then, instaed of just itching (which it did like a mosqito bite) it started to hurt when I was running. It felt " heavy " and the vibrations of my foot hitting the pavement really hurt that area. I had tests up the yling-ylang. Some for skin infections and bacterial infections, some for eczema, nothing...then my doc sent me for a biopsy and still nothing. Saw 4 different specialists...nothing. Everyone looked at it and said, " obviously SOMETHING is wrong, " but no one knew what. Eventually it faded Then began on the other leg. You should have seen the look on my docs face when I said, " ITS BAAACK " . Fast forward to the diabetes diagnosis and the controlling of sugars etc. Now it has disappeared and been gone for 2.5 years (miraculously this is the same amount of time I have been diagnosed.) Doc doesn't think it is to do with that, but I am pretty sure myself and I found a few websites showing pictures of advanced leg lesions and such. What I had looked like a very light version of that. Could be the carbs too! I have tried to reduce all of that " BAAAD " stuff so it could have been the same thing??? ~ Jayd
Guest guest
If you use gas heat as we do - we have to use two vaporizers to keep the moisture in the " comfort zone. " Now and then I boil a big pot of water too - to help up the humidity. Dry skin and dry lungs can be very uncomfortable. Hansen Re: itching..... Ok I have a question about this also. Take a look at message 31450, I listed a couple of new ones there. I didn't keep them, and then when I looked a couple of days ago I couldn't find the one that I wanted. I printed it out and took it to my doc though about a year ago. I wish I could find the page again, but another search just now didn't show anything better either. ~ Jayd
