Guest guest
Hi group! I have some questions/thoughts for you concerning my 15 year old daughter (I will call her Honey)- want to know if others can relate and maybe have some suggestions. Had a great consult with and I now understand that Honey needs to work on diet (a lot of work) and we have ordered the suggested supplements (but of course delivery will take a few days at best). Honey continues to take Zoloft 25mg/day. Honey has had what feels are panic attacks and suggested something for Honey to take with those. suggested for Honey to take aconitum napellus (not here yet) but only if it is a true panic attack… will Honey know the difference between just really stressed and a panic attack? (What is a panic attack?) Hoping Magnesium will also help with anxiety. (not here yet) Something that Honey and I are discovering about her panic attacks (had one last night) and wanted to see if this is something others can relate to: In most of the panic attacks Honey has had, she initially was feeling bad (overwhelmed, stressed, upset) and then came a contributing loud noise (hallway at school, noise of holiday shoppers, construction work/banging/hammering) = “panic attack”. Last night during panic attack, Honey was worried she was going to lose control/was losing control… could only focus/concentrate/see (?) one object… the rest of the room she couldn’t concentrate on (?) Honey also talked to me last night about having people touch her… later in the day/evening, she doesn’t want anyone to touch her or be too close to her. There are a couple people she considers “her safe people” (boyfriend and myself) and we can usually touch her or be close. Honey always wants to have TV or some music on—feels “scared” if it is quiet. I know/think she is overstimulated. She is home from school today (had a bad yesterday). School is a source of loud/fast stimulation I think—how does one cope with that? I would love to hear if any of this makes sense or if you can relate to it. I wish I could take this from her and put it upon myself. It is hard to understand how she is feeling because I just have no idea what it is like. Thank you! Guest guest
Amy, You described a panic attack exactly. I usually get real fidgety, feel like I’m going to die, hyper venalate, throwing up, diahrea. From having panic attacks have her focus on deep breathing. I also like having the tv on, it’s not so much that I’m scared, but I feel comforted. With school being overstimulating, have you ever thought about homeschooling her and joining a homeschool group where there are less kids. School can be overwhelming, all the pressures from kids and teachers. I’m not sure what your situation is like and if this is even an option. But if you want more info email me off list and I can help you. Best of luck, she is so young to go through this. I’m here for ya. hugs Micki Health Eating and Living Together http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/he2gether_/ From: Withdrawal_and_Recovery [mailto:Withdrawal_and_Recovery ] On Behalf Of Amy Sent: Monday, December 18, 2006 9:22 AM To: Withdrawal_and_Recovery Subject: questions about feelings/symptoms/panic attacks Hi group! Guest guest
Hi Amy, " will Honey know the difference between just really stressed and a panic attack? (What is a panic attack?) Hoping Magnesium will also help with anxiety. (not here yet) " " Honey " will know the difference between stress and a panic attk, if she is having a panic attk she will feel like she is about to die. Believe me , she will be able to differentiate between the two. The noise, the people touching etc..........its all down to the drugs. I couldn't stand anyone touching me when I was on them, and when I was withdrawing I didn't even like touching my labrador (before, he was the only thing I found comfort in, the velvet feel to his eears) There is an article on over stimulation in the files, have a read, you should be able to make some changes there that will help your daughter. Keep listening to her, everything she is telling you, is how she feels, and it will really help to help you guys if you can report back accurately exactly how " honey " is feeling and what is going on in her head. I am so pleased you had a consult with and hopefully the supplements and diet changes will happen fast. She will be fine, just gently reassure her when she is having panic attks. With Love to you both
