Guest guest
Dear Dollie, My right ankle tends to swell. That's my foot that drags. Because it does not " work " in the usual way, the fluid tends to pool up. My physical therapist is really good at mobilizing the bones in the foot and ankle and has also done a maneuver called manual lymph drainage. Guest guest
Hi Dollie, Yes, I get swollen ankles, especially if it is a particularly hot day. They swell sllightly in winter only when I am on my feet too much. Doctors can't really explain why they swell, but what's new there!!! Good luck and take care. Guest guest
I do and I raise them and ice them if it gets too bad. I also have a wedge shaped (rt. Triangle) sponge rubber pillow I occasionally use in bed to keep my feet raised. Lastly, my favorite PT told me to my feet in a bucket of ice cubes if the situation got too bad. Hope this helps.Ken Auer From: Gene & Dollie Darrah To: PLSers-NEWS ; PLS-FRIENDS Sent: Thursday, August 23, 2001 3:20 PM Subject: Swollen Ankles Dear All:Do any of you have a problem with swollen ankles? Guest guest
Dear Dollie, I have a swollen ankle--it is my most affected leg. Because we don't move our "dead" ankles, the normal fluid does not get mobilized. PT can do something called manual lymph drainage to move the fluid out of that area. Not all PTs know how to do it. so you may have to look around. Also, compression stockings may help prevent the fluid from building up in the first place. Additionally, cutting back on the salt and other sodium in your diet will help. You know how the salt in the shaker gets damp--well the same thing happens in your body. The salt just holds on to the fluid. Wishing you the best, Dolores (Dolly) Carron Swollen Ankles Dear All:Do any of you have a problem with swollen ankles?
