Hi Bonnie,

You are NOT nuts!!! I too suffer from constipation. Before the PLS I had

irritable bowel syndrome which was horrible too.

Now I don't go for 7 days sometimes. I just had a colonoscopy to be sure

there was not blockage. There isn't. My gasentrologist put me on a

prescription laxative & Milk of Magnesia. She didn't know if it was related

to the PLS or not. But, I think it is. Either that or all the medications

that I'm.

Don't ever feel embarrassed asking a question. We're all in this together

and have to

manage the best way that we can. Take care. Beth

Just a thought... A side effect of baclofen is constipation- this is

probably true for the others too. Not drinking enough water might be to

blame- I don't drink as much because it's so hard to get to the bathroom I

unconsciously try to not go " too often " . A third reason that affects all

of us is that we are not very mobile- when we move it's slow. Exercise is

important for a functioning bowel. I think all of this together sets us up

but I don't think it's a direct link since the gut is smoothe muscle and

the problem with PLS is motor neurons that innervate striated muscle. Lavon

Bonnie:

I have problems with constipation too and find that alot of the medications

I'm on seem to have that as a side effect. I've just starting rying to

drink more water and that seems to be helping some. Hope this help, good

luck.

L.

---Bonnie, if you take baclofen it will constipate you. I buy stool

softeners. They are tablets that you take at night. Also I am just

trying out citracil which is a powder that you mix in water. Also,

try to drink lots of water. I know how you feel, I have had this

problem since I was a kid. Alot of medications will do it to. Carolyn

Well, I have hesitated to enter into the embarrassing comparisons, but here goes.

I am not, nor have I ever been..........

constipated. Everything pretty much works

normally. Whew! ! ! ! ! ! !

I guess that wasn't so bad.

There are those who have the opinion that I

am full of it, but I beg to differ.

G'day!

Embarassing Question

This is a little embarrassing, but does anyone else suffer from

extreme chronic constipation? I have had this problem for many years and it is getting worse. My theory is that this could be PLS related, since the colon is a muscle perhaps the same problem that causes my legs not to respond to messages also causes my colon not to move. Sound crazy? I've mentioned this to my doctor but he doesn't seem concerned.

I am nuts?

Is a side effect I'm afraid, particularly with higher doses. If it REALLY

bothers you,and is ongoing, you can be switched over to a small dose of

insulin. Discuss with doc. And for all those who are terrified of

needles...the insulin pen needles are thinner than most and you can't feel a

thing, unlike the damn pricking and bloods.

Oh isn't that awful to have to deal with? I don't know why, but that is one of

the side effects of Glucophage that keeps many people from being able to use it.

My doc and I have avoided it for me because I was having that problem already,

but since I went off my hormone preparation that I was using, that stopped.

Maybe one of the additives of the hormones or something.

Might be something interesting to look up on the net!

Maybe you can change your meds if you're having that problem - it can lead to

other things like electrolyte imbalance, potassium deficiency, and not the least

of them is *a sore behind*!! Might be kind of indelicate, but it's the truth!!

Embarassing question

Hello everyone. I haven't been here in a minute but I have to ask

this question and if it offends anyone I apologize now. Its so

embarassing but WHY WHY WHY does glucophage give you terrible

diarrhea???? I can't even enjoy dining out with friends without

worrying about getting a case of the runs right after my meal. :(

I had diarrhea in the beginning, but now after three months it has disappeared.

My doctor advised me that this might happen, so I just waited it out.

Deanna

Some girls on one of the other lists I'm on complained about the

diarrhea too. But they are still on the medication though.

I can understand how frustrating that must be to deal with that

and that's just based on things like this one that I've heard.

No he didn't explain the why's - only that it was a very common side effect that

would likely taper off in time. Which it did. :o) I didn't really do too much

about making things more bearable except make sure I always knew where the

washroom was when I went out and put espson salt in my daily baths.

Deanna

Did he ever say why this was such a problem for so many women?

And why it is a side effect of the medication? Also, did you do

anything to make it more bearable as you waited for it to stop?

My doctor prescribed Lomotil and Donnatal for me, and they both helped

very much. I'd ask your doctor if s/he thinks it could help you.

I do not have that reaction, my doctor told me that I might have this happen.

We are all different, so check with your doctor.

Glugophage made me very sick as well, which is why my Doctor switched

me over to Glucotrol.

When I went to the doctor, knowing something was wrong, but not really

suspecting diabetes, because I was not thirsty or going potty often. I had all

the symptoms of flu or an infection. However, I knew I wanted him to do a blood

test for a ph infection I had several months prior.. so I requested a diabetes

test be done to since it ran in the family..

Sugar was high and lipids or something like that were out of whack. The

symptoms which have disappeared since bring the sugar in control, were diarrhea,

nausea, headache, tiredness, poor balance.

Bless you for sharing that with us. I was hoping that would be the case. I saw

one of those pens and I think I can handle it if I ever have to use insulin.

With my lancer for blood testing I find I can change the settings for each

finger making it an ok experience... I have the accu check with the 11 comfort

settings. I use 2.5 and 3. My fingers are never sore, and for awhile I kept

testing the same finger.
