Guest guest
It's probably dry skin from being hypo - try using moiturizing body lotions and see if that helps. You might want to check with your doc though just to make sure you're not having an allergic reaction or something. Good luck and try not to scratch!!! - Gayle TT 1990 > Has anyone experienced ithing, while hypo? Guest guest
Mark, I have a tendency while hypo to dry skin and eczema. Seems the itching starts before the dry patches actually show up. I try to drink more stay hydrated during this time. A cortisone cream helps when the dry patches finally surface. But for me itching is a sure sign I need my levels checked if it isn't a planned hypo period. Good Luck...and don't scratch! Guest guest
Itching may be due to the dry skin of being hypo, a common side effect for us thycans. Plus, it's winter and...need I say more? When I had my ablative dose my TSH on the 9th was 150 and I didn't get the RAI until the 25th. It took my skin literally 3 years to recover and never has been quite the same. Soooo, I began inquiring at my local health food store and started taking flax seed oil. In a month (in the winter) I began to notice a difference in my skin. I take Barlean's brand oil. It is available in capsules but you have to take like 9-10 HUGE pills to equal one tablespoon of the oil. Oil is oil, but this brand is the best I've found. I always have something tart like cranberry juice to drink immediately after and this works for me. Best to you. --- marksil99 <MdSILVER@s... wrote: > Has anyone experienced ithing, while hypo? Guest guest
I have experienced itching due to extreme dryness of my skin and scalp and hair. I had to use moisturizers for the first time in my adult life. I used some Eucerin Plus right after showering, applied over damp skin and something lighter for my face(Neutrogena products). Also, weekly hot oil treatments for my hair and scalp. The itching and dryness went away as soon as I returned from hypoland(about 4 to 6 weeks after restarting T4). Guest guest
It could be an allergy hon - has she seen a dermatologist - they can draw blood and almost immediately find the allergics - also - #1. Walgreens has some incredible blue lotion for itching and sunburn - it has aloe and lidocaine in it - and it may help - a lot - my DH had a nasty nasty allergy for about 6 months - we went to 5 dermatologists - and he has scars from scratching - anyway - the blue gel lotion helped - put it in the fridge - also - #2. Dermoplast - its a spray in with the Solarcaine - new moms get it for stitches - it too has some lidocaine in it and its harmless and may help - #3. DH found that cool/cold seems to help keep away the itch some - he had ice bags - refreezable - and - also - a bag of peas wrapped in a tea towel works really well - and - you can refreeze and refreeze til the peas are mush and then go buy another generic bag for 99 cents. Poor dear - good luck - don't let her itch much longer without a dermatology consult - hugshugs deb in NE Itching I was wondering if anyone knows of any causes of extreme itching. My Mom is 6 months post-op and itches like crazy. So much so that she's rubbed off skin on her hands and feet and has to spray the itchy spots with Benadryl spray to get any relief. It started right after her surgery but she just attributed it to the anesthesia, but now it's been going on for awhile. I know that I read about this somewhere recently, but I can't remember where. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it if you'd send them - and so would my Mom. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comT http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / ... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! ®

Guest guest
I wish I had more positive input, but thought you might want the information as you seek a solution or cause. I have been suffering with chronic hives for almost 9 months now. I am 15 months post op. My surgeon has not addressed the issue and my allergist says it is something I will have to live with. It could leave anytime....or be with me forever. I do not know if this is related to the itching your mom is experiencing, but I do know that I empathize completely! > > > I was wondering if anyone knows of any causes of extreme itching.
