Call your doctor ... NOW ... don't wait for the office to open. If you have

a neurologist by chance that's the doc to call. If not call your primary.

Seizures are nothing to mess with ... at all! Especially an adult having one

for the first time. CALL ... NOW.

This morning in bed I had some form of Seizure.....I was laid on my left side

and felt my body Jerk....I then had a more

violent Jerk and ended up on my back.

I have no history of Seizures and don't feel that I have any after effects.

Any advice is welcome.

Hi Veena,

If you've never had this before, I would tend to think along the lines of a

myoclonus rather than a true seizure. Often when we are in bed either

waking up or going to sleep, we can have these jerks, some forms of this are

more severe and happen with more regularity and are called restless leg

syndrome. Myoclonus can be a normal thing for some people, occurring

irregularly or seldom at all or it can be a marker for a more serious

disorder but typically this myoclonus happening with regularity. A true

seizure would leave you unaware of what had happened to you and in a mental

state of confusion, so there is a difference between a epileptic seizure and

myoclonus. Myoclonus happens in epilepsy, as it is the description of

muscle movement, but the person having the seizure is not usually as aware

of their body movements at the time.

To learn more, go here: http://www.myoclonus.com/

Do talk to your doctor about this, if this is a regular occurrence, there is

treatment available for it.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Jill - and

I've spoke to an out of hours GP and he thinks I may have a Electrolyte

Imbalance

which is common in 's Disease. I've to have bloods taken tomorrow

and

Blood pressure monitored....it was ok on friday.

It's worrying all this 's stuff...they think my high-dose steroid

Inhaler is

the cause of it.

I shall mention the Myoclonic Jerks to my doctor.

Happy New Year

Take care

Veena, how long was the antibiotics course? If you have done the eight

weeks one and it still has come back, you may need IV antibiotics. I had

to do this in May when the infection reappeared and was very keen to

take over my body. In the end, I was so ill, I almost died. Not fun.

Trust me, don't let it get that bad. I was in hospital for a week with

that. Luckily I don't remember much about it.

I must admit no knowledge of 's Disease, but if your body is

worrying about that, a smart bug could get past the early warning

system. With my RA, an auto immune disease, my body is so busy trying to

attack itself, that leaves me more vulnerable to whatever else is going

around. The treatment involve suppressing the immune system. Catch 22.

<sigh>

Speak to your GP. You may need to have a flu jab every year. They

usually start doing them around the end of September. It is not a 'live

vaccine' one, so it won't give you flu. If you are allergic to eggs,

speak to your GP in advance so that they can order another type of flu

jab where eggs are not used. They don't give these routinely for cost

reasons. Apparently they are substantially more expensive than the egg

based one. There is also a ten year vaccine for 31 (out of 33) types of

pneumonia. Due to my asthma, as soon as something like that appears on

the horizon, I am whipped into hospital. I'll take a sore arm any day if

it means I do not have to go to hospital. If 's is affecting your

immune system in any way, you are a higher risk for flu and pneumonia,

so you will need to look into this as soon as possible. I don't know if

you should have this year's flu jab or not. Another thing to ask your GP

about.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I'm on my 5th course of antibiotics. I've had 4 x 5 day courses and

1 x 7 day course. I am seeing my GP tomorrow.

With 's Disease the steroids boost you up.... after being so

ill for a year I changed overnight with the meds.....I don't know

when I am becoming ill until it gets worse and you have to double

the steroids to cope with the stress on your adrenals.

I too have Asthma and have a yearly Flu Jab....I had a Pneumonia

Jab 4 years ago and got a Pneumonia 2 years ago.....My

Endocrinologist wants me to have one every year but it causes

side-effects if you have them less than every 3 years.....I'm due to

have one now but with the infections I've not been able to.

My Endo thinks my high-dose Inhaled steroids may have caused

my 's....he is admitting me in the next couple of weeks

to do some tests......Himself and a Chest Consultant are to see me

together to assess my Meds and steroids...he is also starving me

for 24 hours to monitor my blood sugar levels....I'm not relishing

that.

I'll have to have IV steroids as you need to take them after food.

I'm due surgery on my knee in the next few weeks but I've got

to have these tests first.......so it's a race against time.

Hope to see you in May.

Take care

OK, these are the growth charts that the CDC has. The first link growth

charts 2 is the listing of all the charts. The second one is the one you

specifically need to check your daughters height.

had a growth delay because of steroid cream. Any steroid can stunt

growth, inhaled, cream, lotion, oral or injected. caught his growth

up as soon as he lowered the dose of his steroid. So ... it's a judgement

call. Which is worse ...the growth pattern, or the asthma. Also, in some

cases they choose to keep the steroid while giving growth hormone.

What type of steriods were you on that were inhaled? is on Flovent

and has been for 5 years for her asthma. I've been put on a combo of 2

steroids in one inhaler to get rid of my bronchitis. I just found out

recently that the inhaled Flovent can cause stunting of growth. Most of

's friends are taller than their mom's but is still shorter

than me. Anyone know if I should be worried? She's 13 years old and 4 months

and is about 5' 2 " tall where I'm 5' 5 1/4 " tall (call me the shrinking

woman - I've lost 1/2 " over time)

Hi Bonnie,

I didn't clear 4ft 6inches until after I turned 14. Josh has been on

puffers with steroids and prednisone several times a year since he was 3

months old. In the last 12 months has grown 7.5 inches. I have

often asked the docs about the steroids but have been reminded that even

if he is an inch or two shorter it is much better that he is still

breathing.

Give a hug for me!

Hi Bonnie

I am taking Pulmicort (Budesonide). I was diagnosed as having Asthma

in 1994......two weeks after returning from a holiday to Australia.

Over the years I have needed to increase the dosage....I ended up taking

1600 mcg a day........I had been on this dose for two years getting repeat

after repeat prescription.....I was never warned by my GP's that such a

high dose may infact cause a life-threatening disease....as you have

probably

gathered I am very angry about this.

I managed to reduce to 800 mcg daily but my Asthma has increased. My

GP added Seravent (Salmetarol.)..this is a Green Inhaler. It helped a little

then I got a chest Infection and now I'm having breathing difficulties

again.

I have seen my GP this morning and I have to double-up on the Seravent.

I am due to be admitted soon to have all my meds assessed and also I am

having a chest consultant together with my Endo to see me and assess my

Asthma and steroid meds.

With regards to growth I'm not sure. I am 5' but was 5' 1/2 " ...I don't

know if I lost 1/2 " due to the Inhalers or a mild spinal curvature.

Take care

Veena

I was on the asmacort inhaler as a child and it also has a side effect of

stunting the growth. I am 5'5 and my mother and father are 5'11 and 6'0

respectively. I never grew an inch after age 13.
