Guest guest
Hi , YES, you should be here. While I didn't have your particular experience (my frozen section showed thyca so I had a TT from the get-go) many on the list have had 2 surgeries or more, so I know you will get some great input. I just wrote to say stick around. You definitely belong here. It's an exclusive club that none of us really wanted to join, but I'm so glad I found this group and you will be as well. The waiting is hard; perhaps the most difficult part, and I hear your frustration. In the meantime, get as much education as you can so you are " armed " for whatever comes next. Ask any question(s) that come(s) to mind. Best wishes, on OH
Guest guest
Hi , I ended up having 2 surgeries, about 6 weeks apart. Originally, I had a FNA which was inconclusive and ruled the largest nodule a follicular neoplasm. I had partial thyroidectomy to remove that, the frozen section in the OR came back benign, as did the followup pathology as week later. A MONTH later, the surgeon called me to say they had received a followup pathology report that indicated the original benign diagnosis on the largest nodule was in fact follicular/hurthle thyca and they found 2 very small papillary nodules. According to this list, many, many people have the frozen section indicate benign and then later have the subsequent pathology come back malignant. There is a post about that specifically, maybe our friend Nick can re-post that. Good luck to you, if you do indeed have 2 surgeries, my 2nd one was even easier than the first, which was pretty easy anyway. - Rochester, NY pt 05/01, tt 06/01 RAI 08/01, 02/02 150 mci pap/foll/hurthle thyca > Hi I have posted here a couple of times though I have read most of > your posts. Guest guest
I also would be interested in the previous posting that covers the frozen section being benign and then subsequent reports being malignant. I would appreciate if Nick would repost it too. Cindi Re: How Did you all handle the waiting??????? Or did you have 2 surgeries Hi , I ended up having 2 surgeries, about 6 weeks apart. Guest guest
- Many people on this list have had two surgeries, with, of course, different opinions of the experience. Why do you have to wait for the results while your surgeon is on holiday? Surely the results have been received in his/her office; if they won't release a copy directly to you, surely they will send a copy to your general practitioner. Personally, there's no way I would wait for a diagnosis if I knew that the answer is sitting on somebody's desk. - too kvanderyt wrote: > Hi I have posted here a couple of times though I have read most of > your posts. Guest guest
-- WOW thanks for responding. I was so shocked that anything was even inconclusive that the waiting is a killer! But then everyone here knows that! I should here soon I would think. 1 to 3 weeks, this will be week 2 coming up. Though DRS office and staff are closed for vacation. SO more like next week. I see my endocrinologist on Tuesday so maybe he got a copy of the results. I will let you all know Thanks for your support. - In Thyca@y..., Cindi <cgroetsch@p...> wrote: > I also would be interested in the previous posting that covers the frozen > section being benign and then subsequent reports being malignant. Guest guest
Hi.... My situation is a bit different than yours but I had two surgeries. My initial surgery was to remove the left lobe which contained a " suspicious " follicular 2.5cm nodule. The frozen section was read as bengin but final pathology determined the nodule to be a follicular carcinoma. During the final pathology another .9 cm papillary nodule was identified, also. I was readmitted to the hosptial 2 1/2 weeks later to remove the remaining right lobe. The waiting is extremely hard. Good luck.... let us know how things turn out. Guest guest
Thanks Christy for responding. WOW two sugeries so close together. I bet you are glad that it is all behind you. Guest guest
Cindi, I had my original surgery for a " nodule " on my thyroid in 1981. The result of the frozen section was that the nodule was benign, so all that the surgeon did was remove half of my thyroid and some lymph glands. Guess what! Further histological studies revealed pap ca, so I was put on suppressive therapy. 20 years later I discovered a lump in my neck--decided just to have it removed rather than dink around with FNA. Again frozen section came back negative. AGAIN histology revealed pap ca!. So back into surgery for the third time--13days after the second time. I asked the surgeon to install a zipper! The good news: the surgeries are easy and recovery is quick--at least in my case! I've just had my RAI and my first hypo experience. It really wasn't too bad for me---so hang in there! c
Guest guest
Wow you sure have gone through a lot. I am still waiting the path report. I saw my endocrinologist today for the first time since my surgery. He is pleased with the scar. I had blood tests done. He thinks I am now slightly hypo as I was slightly hyper before or my nodule was! I wish you all the best -- - In Thyca@y..., " Colly Tettelbach " <ctettelb@h...> wrote: > Cindi, > > I had my original surgery for a " nodule " on my thyroid in 1981. Guest guest
I'm very glad to hear that you went 20 yrs with no problems but sad to hear that now your going through it again. I'm just beginning my journey with this have had thyroid and 1 lymph node remv. and am awaiting my first RAI treatment. Feeling very depressed today, like the journey will never get any better than this, don't want to go up and down for the rest of my life!!!!! RENEE RE: Re: How Did you all handle the waiting???????
