Hi, Tom--

You are allowed dairy in Phase 1. In fact, this is the only are in which I've cheated in the past week as my dairy has not been skim--it's 2% milk. I have to have milk in my morning tea!!! But it hasn't hindered my weight loss, which has been 7 pounds in week one. I think you're allowed a total of 2 cups per day--mind you that includes yogurt. The milks are: lowfat and 1%, lowfat soymilk, and fat free plain yogurt.

Good luck!

Tomorrow is the day I start the diet. I am actually doing my food shopping today. I have never consumed black coffee. I always had some sort of skim milk in it. Is there a solution for that as I know that dairy is not ok the first 14 days.I quess I am kind of bummed about this diet as my wt was great until about 2 months ago when I came off an antidepressant( serzone) and started noticing I was eating like a pig. Got on the scale this am..179 lbs- goal is 163tom

I hear you! I gained 15 pounds in one month after being on Vioxx for a torn

tendon.

Here's the good news - there's been a couple of updates and 1% milk is now

ok in Ph 1.

Here are the updates:

Milk:

Old Version:

Avoid all dairy in Phase 1, except for less than 2 tablespoons fat-free ½

and

½, nonfat milk, 1 percent milk, or soy milk allowed with coffee.

New Version:

Phase 1:

Now includes 1 percent or fat-free milk, low-fat plain soy milk (4 grams of

fat or less per serving), 1 percent or fat-free buttermilk, and fat-free

plain

yogurt on the Phase 1 " foods to enjoy " list. Limit dairy to 2 servings a

day.

Note: Feel free to flavor your fat-free plain yogurt like a ricotta creme.

Phase 2:

May add low-fat plain yogurt as a " food to enjoy " in Phase 2. May also

introduce commercial artificially sweetened nonfat flavored yogurt, but

limit this

variety to 4 ounces daily. Note: Since the SBD is still low in saturated

fat,

high-fat whole milk products will remain on the " foods to avoid " lists for

all

Phases.

Tomatoes:

Old Version:

Limited to one whole tomato or 10 cherry tomatoes per meal in all Phases.

New Version:

Not limited in any Phase.

Onions:

Old Version:

Limited to ½ per day in all Phases.

New Version:

Not limited in any Phase.

Carrots:

Old Version:

Avoid carrots in Phase 1 and 2; allowed in moderation in Phase 3.

New Version:

Allowed, starting in Phase 2.

I am pretty sure that I used fat free half and half in my coffee during phase 1 and do believe that that is legal now. I certainly use it now. Funny, but before I started dieting I alway had my coffee black. Now I have it white with sweetner. lol! Joyce D.

Milk is fine on Phase 1, as long as it's 1% or lower. Enjoy your coffee!
