Guest guest
Delia What drug was it that your father was put on. I think in your distress you forgot to mention it. Some of the antiarrhythmic drugs can arise a prolongation of the QT wave and then v/tac and sudden death. That is why they should be initiated in a hospital setting. You can email me personally if you want. Some of the side effects of these drugs are realy scary. Guest guest
Delia Do a search on the top of this board for amioderone. Some have lost their thyroids to this drug, others have had lung problems. Was you father being monitored for these. It is also one of the pro arrhythmic drugs and can cause a prolongation of the QT, resulting in Torsades de points, which is basically V Tach. I hope for your fathers sake you can get a good lawyer. Guest guest
My father had his thyroid shut down 9 months ago from what he beleived was due to Amiodarone but his doc insisited it wasnt due to this drug cause he was taking what the doc calls " smaller dosage " if there is a such thing on this drud...anyways im doing alot of research into this and we are waiting on the autopsy results before we do anything...the cause of death was respitory failure due to chronic heart disease...my father kept telling us he thought this drug was doing this to him the last 3 weeks of his life and he asked us to ook into it if he did die...im not in it for the money i just dont want other people to have to go through the pain and suffering he had to go through and not to mention the family goes thourgh watching a loved one suffer so bad...I know things happen for a reason i know my father is i heaven where he wanted to go so bad...my father was a youth minister and the absolutely best man on this earth...i hate it that i cant be here on the earth with him any longer but i know he is smiling down on me and i know when its my time to go he will be there waiting for me...i guess what im trying to say is that i know God needed him more but i still feel like this drug cheated him and his family out of more days, months, yrs or whatever with him anyways thanks for all the info i do appreciate it very much--- Delia In AFIBsupport , " Frances Ross " <Frances@a...> wrote: > Delia > > Do a search on the top of this board for amioderone. Guest guest
Delia, For your information, I was on Amiodarone different times over the last two years for my afib. After an ablation and pacemaker insertion, my heart is now in rhythm. However, the drug caused many lung problems for me. I was hospitalized for 12 days in September of this year, had heart catherization, lung biopsy, all kinds of procedures and they said I had blood in the lungs and really could not put a name on my illness. After being on prednisone for five months, I asked to be off of that and will seek a second opinion at Mayo's in Rochester, MN, next month. Amiodarone made me so dizzy that I was falling down all the time, had sleep problems and many " hot flashes " . Let me know if you have any more questions that I can answer. Guest guest
> > >he was >taking Amiodarone for 18 months > Dear Delia, Amiodarone is known for it's bad side effects. We're so sorry about your father dying so young. It's not unreasonable to suspect that the Amiodarone may have contributed to his death. How else can we help you? Thank heavens you have your faith to sustain you. We know how much you're hurting. Many people on this Web site have had their thyroids damages and/or destroyed by Amiodarone. Guest guest
> Thanks for the reply...I was just looking for any and all info on > the drug Amiodarone...snip..................................... Hello Delia: I am so sorry to hear about your father's death. It is so nice of you to do the research on amiodarone....but, I would like to add that there is a condition that is often undiagnosed by most physicians....and that is borderline iron overload(which in some is caused by eating too many high iron foods and possibly a defect which increases the rate of iron absorption) and in the more severe and inherited form it is known as Hemochromatosis. I have written about this in the past so you may want to do the research on this in the afib archives. Undiagnosed iron overload can increase the severity of diabetes, heart disease, cirrhosis and other major diseases. It also may be the cause of many diseases and disorders including atrial fibrillation. Please make sure that all his blood relatives, including yourself get tested. According to my estimate one in six personsin the United States may be affected and carry one or both genes for the disorder. The tests that are needed: CBC with differential, TIBC and UIBC, Transferrin Saturation Percentage, and Ferritin. The Hemoglobin and Hematocrit is usually elevated, and if the tibc/uibc are be low....Then the Saturation Percentage will be high....Ferritin may or may not be elevated. Some use the Ferritin alone as a diagnostic tool....but I had low ferritin (some people with sugar imbalances have low ferritin)and still had iron overload..... How is an iod treated?.....Very simply with therapeutic phlebotomies.....Blood donations do have to be prescribed by a physician.....and done until the ferritin and the saturation percentage is in the normal range.....this normal rate is much lower then for the average non-iod individual. I had undiagnosed iod probably most of my life because it was always diagnosed as anemia. Depression, bloating around my waist, fatigue and wanting to sleep all the time were some of my symptoms. It took almost a year of research to initiate the blood donations and another year before I felt better. I feel better than I have ever felt in my whole life.....because I keep my hemoglobin below 14 and my hematocrit at below 42......(they are actually at l3 and 39) For men the recommended hgb is at below l5 and the crit is at below 45. Anyone going around with higher levels may also be more prone to blood clots. If you have any questions, please feel free to post or email me.
