Many of the patients I have seen over the years are exquisitely sensitive by genetics and have never been taught how to care for this type of nervous system - which often extends to the digestive system and other biologic processes.

Could you please elaborate on this a little? I got into a very heated debate with one of the foremost shrinks in the country who tried to tell me that the reason I had a bad reaction to Paxil, two years of withdrawals, and lingering damage was because I had a bad gene and he wanted me to send him my spit in a bottle so he could test my DNA. I told him that his rationale was like telling me the reason I died of rat poison was that I had a faulty gene! I won't repeat the other things I said to him. How do you assess a person's nervous system? And how do you know it's a genetic problem?

Hi Glitter,

I am really behind in email so reading this post early on - keep that

in mind as I respond, as I may be getting ahead of myself here (not

having read any future responses since).

Ok. I think what the dr. here is trying to say is this: a person is

born with a sensitive nervous system or other issue that is in the

person's genes, but it is never noticed or diagnosed as such, so that

person begins blaming other things for it, and taking antidepressant

drugs or other things to deal with it, which of course put poison

into the body and make everything worse.

I don't think the dr. is negating that the coping mechanisms (which

do not address the REAL problem) used are damaging, just that if the

underlying problem was aptly recognized, and the person could

accomodate for his/her issue in everyday life with healthy methods,

then a lot of damage could have been avoided.
