My number one biggest fear was NOT having WLS! It took an entire year for

the insurance to approve it. And I wasn't sure if we would be able to

handle the expense without the insurance.

Post-op -- even after 5 years -- I still have a fear of gaining weight. Not

as bad as it was in the beginning, but it's still there niggling at the

back of my mind. I suppose I should be grateful for that little niggle

though because it does help to keep me on track. <G>

That it won't work. That it will fail and I'll be fat again. This sounds so

shallow but I just can't go back to being that person. I had no idea just

how miserable I was as a MO person until I wasn't one anymore. Even though

in my head I will always be MO. I don't feel it in my body anymore. And that

is so wonderful.

My biggest fear is that something unexpected will happen during the surgery.

Today I was reminded how the completely unexpected can occur in just a blink

of an eye ~ the two youngest of my three children and I were out on an

impromptu Pez quest (they collect Pez dispensers) when we were struck by

another car. Everyone walked away with minor injuries but both cars were

totaled. My ten year old son has a cut above his eye that the ER doctor

didn't even need to put stitches in and my twelve year old daughter has a

jammed wrist and cut bottom lip.

The young man who hit us (18 yrs old) was not wearing his seat belt and was

so shaken up, but was out of his car and over to mine to check on us before

we could even get out. He was so scared and so sweet but gosh I hope this was

a lesson to him to drive more safely and ALWAYS wear his seatbelt. His

parents arrived shortly after and were so nice--by the time we all parted

company everyone was hugging one another and just thankful to be alive. The

police, fire and ambulance folks were all incredulous at how minor our

injuries were, considering the extent of the damage to my Windstar and his

BMW.

Tonight I am sleepless in Louisville and thanking God for watching over my

children today and every day. I want this surgery so my remaining time with

them can be healthy and full of sweet, simple pleasures.

Thanks to all for being here and sharing our journey.

My biggest fear was being on the ventilator. I was terrified I'd be

unable to communicate and be in pain and have my hands restrained. I

remember only very vaguely being on the vent overnight after sugery

until the next afternoon. I had a fabulous RN who made sure I was OK.

Tomorrow is my 12 week anniversary. I saw my Dr. today, I have lost

62 lbs. and life is sooooo sweet now! I'd do it again in a New York

minute :0)

Dear ,

I am truly thankful that no one was injured badly in your accident today. I

am glad that you had guardian angels surrounding you and your children . I

know that you will have many prayers sent up before, during and after your

surgery from the sisters and brothers on this list.. and that the guardian

angels will be with you as you have the surgery .

Take care

I think My Biggest Fear Is gaining the weight back. I wasn't so much

fearful going into surgery its after the surgery. Not knowing how It

will effect me, how will I handle not being fat anymore? I couldn't

grasp at that concept of not being fat. Its always been a part of my

life and figure it will always be. But now I know differently! :)

My biggest fear right now is the unknown. I am nervous about the

surgery, but not really scared. I just really, really want to know

all that will happen from first consult on - in detail so I can be

mentally and emotionally prepared for it. Of course I know every

experience is different, but I just wonder at some of the things I am

being asked to do and although I will do them gladly, just am kind of

questioning why and whether others had to do them as well.

Enough from me for now,

Love you all,

Bonnie

I guess I've failed at so many diets, and have lost sooooo slowly the

last couple of years that my biggest fear is that I'll get down and

still be 60 lbs overweight, and that it will take forever, and then I'll

regain...

, I'm so happy to hear that no one was badly hurt in the accident. I

would think that boy is counting his blessing and will be much more careful

now, including wearing his seat belt. I just can't imagine people not

wearing them, it's such an automatic thing.

There will be many praying for a safe, uneventful surgery. I really enjoy

watching as people go from their first appointment to post-op. It's so fun

to see people set free! Keep us updated.

My biggest fear is that I won't have good health long term, because of

having this surgery. Which is why I am taking very good care of myself.

I've learned so much here, I doubt that will happen, but I am concerned

about people who don't get the aftercare and guidelines they need to stay

healthy. I could have been one of them without this wonderful group of

caring people :)

So far, things are going very well and I expect they will continue!

- I am so thankful that nothing too serious happened to you or your kids.

As for something unexpected happening during surgery, well, there's no way to

predict it, but if all your pre-op tests come out fine, that should be an

indication that no surprises will be found. Just do your best to remain

positive about the whole thing.

Carla - That is a common fear that we all have before the surgery. But remember

that the chances of this happening are very remote. It sounds like you have a

positive attitude about the whole thing and that will help. Keep the faith.

My biggest fear pre-surgery was of course dying, but secondly ICU / vent/ that

whole thing. Of course none of that happened.

Post Surgery my biggest fear is how my relationships with friends and such have

or will change. My best friend had real issues with me having the surgery, and

was very distant and not there for me prior to surgery. But the night before

surgery she finally called, cried, she was scared I would die, or that I would

not need her anymore. PLEASE. We are friends because I know all her faults

and she mine, and still we love each other. Not because of what we get from

each other. Took time for her to understand that.

Dear ,

Many, many thanks. Yes, we are truly fortunate to have come away from the

accident with only minor injuries. My children told their friends that we had

four guardian angels watching over us ~ my mother, stepfather, sister and

grandmother.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I am even more determined to have this

surgery now and live every moment in appreciation and respect for the gift of

Life.

Dear ,

Thank you. Yes, he was so frightened. He swore to me and his parents that he

will never again drive or ride in a car without a seatbelt. Poor fellow, he

was so shaken. It was his first car, too, and he had just bought it, for

$300.

I love that you used the term " set free " --how appropriate. Reading

through so many amazing profiles of people preparing for and going through

the WLS process has been such an encouraging experience...to see that there

is a better life and that it actually IS attainable. Freedom, indeed. Thank

you so much.

Dear Jeanne,

Thanks so much. Yes, we are all fine, just a little cut and bruised ~ very

fortunate! And yes, it's that positive attitude that makes all the

difference, isn't it? Kind of you to send your well wishes, Jeanne, thank

you. I am determined to make this surgery a success! (now, if only my

insurance co. will cooperate lol)
