Guest guest
Hi Amiodarone is a very good drug and is still the best drug to take to control AF but and a very big but is has some nasty side effects with it . Some of which are not reversible and is some cases can cause death. I would not want to take this drug for more than a year. Dofetilide is a better drug simply as it has less side effect but if you are in PAF, its not very good at controliing the AF episodes in regards to the rate control. i.e.. When taking Amiodarone you can feel when your heart goes into AF but you can carry one with your daily duties until you get back to SR. With Dofetilide you can fell when you in AF as its not good at slowing the rate . Saying this it all depends on you Father how he can tolerate AF. My advice would be at the very very last resort try Amiodarone but to get to this stage, I would try all the EPs for an ablation then dofetilide then try for Amiodaone but only for a year. Try Dr Andres Natlie he seem to have a very good record.. Guest guest
Hi Lea: Pesonally, I would *not* ever consider Amiodarone. If Dofetilide is available to your Dad, I would go for it. This is just my personal opinion. can give you first hand stuff about Amiodarone. Also, if you type the word " Amiodarone " in the search Archive box, you will pull up all the Amiodarone threads. Except for a handful of our members, Amiodarone does not have a good reputation with our group. Good luck with your decision and keep us posted. My question is from all that I have read is that Dofetilde may be used in place of Amiodarone. Is this correct? ********************

I have and got lots back, Here is one URL. http://www.courses.ahc.umn.edu/pharmacy/5822/TikosynGuidelines-revised.pdf In the UK to get on this drug you must have been on at least three other Meds before Tikosyn will be considered. Not sure what the process is in the USA... C - , Is there another name for the drug Dofetilide? I have search on the net and can't find any info on this drug.
