Great info! I can't wait to see your site. When I can afford it I will

be ordering from folks I trust, like you. Right now I do drive quite a

distance to get my eggs which I stock up on to last for over a month

before I treck for another supply. The drive is a pleasant " day trip "

They are now going to ask us how many chickens we think we need for the

year so as to get enough. They are expanding. Right now they are

optimally raised so I hope they don't get so big they have to

compromise. I asked for older hens that have more nutrition.

Hmm. I was going to tell you to forget the group (nothing

personal to them, I'm just an impatient person, LOL) and actually

phone your chapter leader. Then I realized that there is no phone

number listed, which, quite frankly, is against the Basic Requirements

of a chapter leader: " Provide a contact phone number to be listed on

the website... " Her number 1 job is this: " Provide information on

sources of organic foods, milk products from pasture-fed livestock

(preferably raw), pasture-fed eggs and livestock and properly produced

whole foods in your area. " So, you should, theoretically, be able to

call her and ask her to tell you which farms to get pastured chickens

from, and those should all be good farms or else they shouldn't be

recommended. :-) At any rate, she does have an email address, so you

could attempt that, maybe.

Hey, I just noticed that Deanna doesn't have a number listed, either.

What's up? I'd like to not have to list my phone number! LOL. You

Texas slackers! :-p Oops, maybe I shouldn't mess with Texas?

Have you checked out eat wild? I see a few poultry farms around

Austin that look good to me - they mention Salatin among other

good signs. One even delivers!

http://www.eatwild.com/products/texas.html I searched the page for

" Austin " and got several hits, though some were an hour from the city.

I love visiting these farmers! It's so great to talk to people who

are really trying to do things well and who love what they're doing.

That happens to me occasionally, but I think it's more with the cuts.

I don't recall it happening with whole chickens. I know it

occasionally happens with wings and thighs, but only maybe 1 or 2 in a

pan of 30 pieces or so. My DH gets those! LOL. We love dark meat,

too. Can ya tell?

I hope you find some great chickens! :-)
