Hi Eileen,

I understand your fear, BUT, I've been there so I can say that for most the

pain is mild because of the meds. By the time you get home you probably

won't need much pain killer. Some don't use it at all. I mostly used the

pain killer to get to sleep, not for pain. The only time I had pain was just

before I left the hospital. The took out the epidural and I fell asleep.

When I woke up I was in a lot of pain. Called the nurse and she gave me a

pain shot and it went away fast. On the way home I got my Rx.

You will be going through a lot of changes, most very positive. Hang

on......................It's ALL downhill from here :)

YOur not alone. I think most everyone goes through this as the date

approaches. For me, I had lap RNY and there was very little pain and it was

well controlled. Try not to dwell on these ideas, find something to do to keep

you very busy. Clean closets, spring clean your house.... that kinda stuff.

Just keep busy.

Hugs,

I am getting very anxious, nervous, scared to death, i

am worried about the PAIN!

> Hi Eileen, I agree with , everyone is probably scared of the

scared of the unknown. But, I know I have made the right decision,

and I'm sure you will too after all is said and done. And no, you

want to, that's what we are here for. Good luck!

Eileen - Please don't apologize for your feelings. They're normal and totally

justified. And if you cry, you cry. That's normal, too. You will be pretty

doped up the first day or two so that shouldn't be too bad. After that, just

try and stay on top of the pain. It's when you let the time stretch out too far

between pain meds that it gets unbearable. And once it's that bad, it is

difficult to get on top of it again. Everything will be fine. Try to relax.

Keep yourself busy so you don't fret too much. Email any of us whenever the

fears get to be too much. Oh, and keep reminding yourself of how good you're

gonna feel 6 months from now. Take care.

Eileen,

Jeanne is right on! I've had 4 abdominal surgeries . . . have a chart

ready to record your meds/time schedule. I've found that to be a good help.

You aren't a baby -your are venturing into unknown territory - and that

frightens even the strongest of us - I have often found that the things I

worried most about - were the things that I could have worried not at all about

- you go girl - we are proud of you - you are making a bit step - and we will

wave at you when you get to the other side...hugs from deb in NE

Hi, I had mine 4 wks ago today.

It's exciting. You will be fine! The doctors who do

this have a long list of patients they can offer as

reference. You've probably met most of them.

I had attended a support group for over a year.

I was not afraid. I was ready.

I had some complications. The recovery is slower than

I expected. The pain now is still pretty strong.

Do I regret it??? NOT FOR A MINUTE !

It's like when a woman has a baby, she gets as

prepared as possible.....most, in the midst of labor,

yell for whatever will ease the pain. AND, MOST, WILL

HAVE ANOTHER BABY. Having a baby is a life change.

Maybe doctors should sponsor support groups for new

moms. Anyway....

Having gastric by pass is a life change. It hurts,

there may be some complications but as far as I am

concerned, it's no worse than giving birth to my 4

children.

I had a pretty bad time in the hospital and I'd do it

again if I had to. It still hurts some but I know the

pain will end. I know I can get help for the pain.

I couldn't get much help for the disease called

obesity.

YOU WILL BE FINE, FINE AND HAPPY.

Joan;

God Bless ya! How great a thing to have done, was it

because you absolutly had to do it due to health

reasons, or because ya had to do it for your self? I

keep tellin myself its health, but i think its for

self esteem, and tired of apologizing all the time for

banging into things , not walkin fast enough, out of

breath all the time, etc....

Judy, what a lovely way to look at this. I never had

children, another by product of obesity in my case,

but i think i would agree with ya, if the results are

so tremendous, you cant but help to do it. I will try

not to be a baby about it.

I know ill be scared, but i will try to deal calmly

with it.

Thanks so much

It was health- I recently became an adult diabetic and also my cardiologist

said I am a walking (barely) timebomb and my heart muscle was starting to

thicken and will get worse. I also had blood pressure problems and I could

hardly getoff the couch. I was going down hill fast- I was also short of

breath. My reg Dr said I was deteriorating fast. I was also very tired of

being unable to do anything. Those are the main reasons. Joan
