Guest guest
Hi Mike, Thanks for mentioning The Divided Mind by Sarno. It looks very interesting! I have been asking myself the same question for a few years... whether to use an emotional or nutritional approach to help clear up a health issue? I am a Hypnotherapist and have been into WAPF for the last few years. I am now combining both approaches. When I work with a client, say for pain relief I am just as interested in what they are putting in their mouth as I am what going on in their mind. For example, many joint pain and/or arthritis suffers have been or are on low fat diets, consume a lot of processed food and have poor eating habits. I give them some nutritional info. right off the bat i.e. articles from WAP.Then, many times I find out that they also have some unresolved emotional things like trauma, control issues or chronic worry. So I come from both angles... help them clean up their diet and their thinking/beliefs. This new approach has been working very well for me. I like the way my DH puts it... he says, we are emotional/energetic beings but we also have a 'meat suit' to take care of while we are here on planet earth! He says 'Mindbody' should become a new word. Recently, I have been adding EFT to my hypnosis sessions. If you don't know of it, it's an emotional energy therapy - for more info. go to the main web site http://www.emofree.com - there's a VERY COOL short video on the home page. The results I am getting with EFT are mind blowing. Hypnosis is a great modality but I can get to core issues and any emotional blocks way faster with EFT. It's like I've found the missing puzzle piece! A neat case was a woman allergic to cats and with EFT the memory of her mom giving away stray kitten came up along with a decision she made at 6 years old never to love another kitten because it could be taken away from her! This woman's cat allergies cleared up right after the session and have never returned. How cool is that! Anyway, I'm just about to start doing telephone sessions with EFT alone. Can't do the hypnosis part on the phone since it would be difficult to tell if my client was on the floor sleeping and not in their chair under hypnosis. hahaha (unless I had a video or 'hypno- cam' of course!!!) Oh well, I am finding EFT is replacing much of the hypnotherapy I do anyway. I'm putting Sarno's title on my book want list. Thanks again Mike for sharing it with the group! He claims that lots of things are mindbody disorders, even allergies. I've read one of his books. He makes interesting points. I think I agree with him largely, but, while he heals people's back pain using talking and writing about their stresses and emotions, I have found that good nutrition also seems to work at least as well. The question then becomes--should you heal your problems through nutrition, or through a Sarno-type approach? mike
