Guest guest
I was also noticing a hair loss....in the bathroom sink . I happened to read the Evista bottle and it said take vitamins with it......so I now take the B-vitamins with folic acid and choline and the hair loss has tapered. Whenever I combed my hair it be all over the sink but now their is very little hair loss.....beside I understand the B-vit's help keep the arteries cleaner;but ck with your dr. before taking...my primary care dr. said to take it .......it took nearly a month before I noticed any changes. Maybe the Evista was robbing my body of the b-vit's but please ck with your dr. Breta
Guest guest
, I started cardizem early May and didn't start coumadin til July 31st. I already had some hair loss, but it had gotten noticably worse with the cardizem (on the bathroom floor, in the drain, and in the comb) before I started taking the coumadin. I already see improvement in ankle edema and do have some tiny hair regrowth (I can feel the tiny incoming bristles on my scalp) since I discontinued the cardizem. As for stress, yes, it can make one's hair fall out. But, I found this week that the stress of being sick (awful cold and cough) w/o enough rest and having my mom in hospital did NOT cause me to go into a-fib as I half expected it to do. Also, found that z-pak (zithromax) antibiotic and tussinex (codeine) cough syrup are okay for me to take with tikosyn and did not cause a-fib. Most Drs don't care if we have hair loss or ankle edema if the medicine is working for us... that is not their problem. Hope you have a more empathetic Dr than I've seen about such issues. Guest guest
I was taking a B-vit supplement esp for the hair, so I may try that again if I get permission from my Dr to take it... > I was also noticing a hair loss....in the bathroom sink . Guest guest
Hi Ellen, It seems here every message is written in stone. Two years ago I was blissfully unaware what was expecting me. My problem is, I don't know what med is causing my hair loss. I am 'only' taking the 3 meds I mentioned and I am not yet ready to give up my hair or even part of it. I feel just as upset as you did two years ago. /
Guest guest
Hi Breta, thanks for your hint. I am taking these vitamins already. However, I was told if meds are the culprit, vitamins are less effective. Meds are just too potent. / > I was also noticing a hair loss....in the bathroom sink . Guest guest
Cheryl I had extreme reaction to Zythromax and coumadin mix. INR went to 4 plus.(3 days) Ended up in emergency room with internal bleeding. Coumadin and antibiotics need to be watched very carefully. Guest guest
Thanks, Bob. My Dr had me coming in to check the INR while on Zythromax. I should have stated that as it is valuable info to share that some antibiotics do affect INR levels. But, I skipped a coumadin pill due to hemorrhoid bleeding, so INR was a little low. And, since I'm off coumadin for the colonoscopy, didn't see any need in going to have INR checked again. But, I will go back as soon as Dr lets me go back on coumadin. Here's hoping no polyps, so will be able to go back to coumadin right away! > > Hi Cheryl, > > > > I will be seeing my doctor shortly and will bring up the subject > of > > hair loss. <snip> > > My question to you, did you also start Coumadin and Cardizem > > together? <snip> > > Your answer would be of great help. > > > > / > > > > > > >
Guest guest
, I realize you did not direct your query to me, but just though I'd tell you that I've been on Cardizem for years and have experienced no hair loss. Sandy, 55, NC Re: Hair loss Since I started all my meds, Altace, Coumadin, and Cardizem at the same time, it is somewhat difficult for me to find the troublemaker. Guest guest
Very interesting, Ellen. Since we all live with stress daily, wondering how it can be reversable? Good luck with Dr Bahnsan! CB <SNIP> Basically, it's thinning of hair associated with stress, even good stress, like moving, or perhaps the stress of changing doctors, or medicine, for that matter. Typically, it becomes obvious a few months after the actual stressor, and it is reversable.
Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I assume you also noticed some hair loss? Out of curiosity I went back and checked my old notes. I had complained to my cardio about losing hair early spring last year, but he shrugged it off and I left it at that. The really noticeable loss appeared later toward the end of last year after I had been dealing with muscle and tendon pains for a couple of months. So the combination of the two could really have affected my hair. With the help of Rogain it is coming back, possibly also because my pains are lessening. After another almost 2 hour session with my physical therapist today, I can practice mild stretching exercises in addition to my walking routine. We went over all the exercises I used to do - and step aerobics with weights are definitely out, " you can hurt yourself with those " . Now about 70 / 80 injections later - something I won't ever forget. / He went on to say the most common cause of hair loss is " telogen effluvium " . Basically, it's thinning of hair associated with stress, even good stress, like moving, or perhaps the stress of changing doctors, or medicine, for that matter. Typically, it becomes obvious a few months after the actual stressor, and it is reversable.
