I have found it very helpful and informative. My current weight is 325, 5'7 and I have tried every diet that you can think of, and this seems like this my last hope to lose weight. I have found a Dr, but just to get a consultation with him, you have to pay about $300, regardless of your insurance and co- pays. Then they want your portion of the payment upfront before the surgery. Is this normal? Also I am cherokee indian does anyone know if they will pay for the portion that my insurance doesnt cover? I look forward getting to know everyone in here and congrats on everyones weightloss....hopefully i will be soon G To Subscribe to 's weekly FREE Newsletter send an email to GBCookbook-subscribe@... Guest guest
Deb, Thanks for responding, I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I have Preferred Community Choice PPO and I am also Cherokee Indian. I found a DR that is in my network and there is also a DR in town that is out of Network, but I was trying to have the least out-of-pocket expense. I figured it would probably cost about $5000 to use my in network DR after my insurance pays. I figure if i want the wls that bad that I will come up with the money some how. My grandmother is going to get me a number i can call at the indian health services, so I'm not giving up on this. Thanks for your help G. > Where are you from - if you want - you can email me at home - dgevert@c... - I work for cardiologists and know a little bit - or can find out - cuz we do the insurance stuff for transplants etc for several different tribes/reservations. Guest guest
Hi Angie, Thanks for your reply, I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the information meeting that I went to that the DR's office held said that the surgeon had to be paid 2 weeks before the surgery. So to me it sounded like he wanted his money up front. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks G. > ... > first of all what state do you live in? laws sometimes vary from state to > state but i do know alot of insurance law and i know in NY that is illegal if > you have insurance they cannot ask for prepayment. > id be willing to look into your case more for you if ya like. > Angie > Upstate NY > 5'10 319# > PRE-OP JULY 24, 200 > > ========Original Message======== > Subj: HELLO -- > Date: 06/09/2002 7:37:51 PM Eastern Daylight Time > From: <A HREF= " mailto:cgibson92@y... Guest guest
cindy - Not all surgeons require this up front money. If it is a big problem for you, then try and find a different doctor. Have you been to www.obesityhelp.com ? They have a lot of info about which surgeons are in which area, and comments from their patients, too.
