My name is , I joined the group a couple of weeks ago and you

guys have alot of wisdom about wls. I have found it very helpful and

informative. My current weight is 325, 5'7 and I have tried every

diet that you can think of, and this seems like this my last hope to

lose weight.

I have found a Dr, but just to get a consultation with

him, you have to pay about $300, regardless of your insurance and co-

pays. Then they want your portion of the payment upfront before the

surgery. Is this normal? Also I am cherokee indian does anyone know

if they will pay for the portion that my insurance doesnt cover? I

look forward getting to know everyone in here and congrats on

everyones weightloss....hopefully i will be soon

Deb,

Thanks for responding, I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma and I have Preferred

Community Choice PPO and I am also Cherokee Indian. I found a DR

that is in my network and there is also a DR in town that is out of

Network, but I was trying to have the least out-of-pocket expense. I

figured it would probably cost about $5000 to use my in network DR

after my insurance pays. I figure if i want the wls that bad that I

will come up with the money some how. My grandmother is going to get

me a number i can call at the indian health services, so I'm not

giving up on this.

Thanks for your help

Hi Angie,

Thanks for your reply, I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the information

meeting that I went to that the DR's office held said that the

surgeon had to be paid 2 weeks before the surgery. So to me it

sounded like he wanted his money up front. Any help or advice would

be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

cindy - Not all surgeons require this up front money. If it is a big problem

for you, then try and find a different doctor. Have you been to

www.obesityhelp.com ? They have a lot of info about which surgeons are in which

area, and comments from their patients, too.
