I have to be on the low iodine diet for two weeks. I

will be hypo during this time, and wonder how that

will affect me. How long after RAI can you start on

synthroid and how long does it take to feel goood

again. I am going to borrow a bread machine. Thanks

for the advice. Tina

Tina,

I just got off the low iodine diet on the 25th after being on it for 2 weeks.

The diet will not affect you while you are on it. I ate more healthy food while

on it than before because everything was prepared fresh. I started back on my

Synthroid right away again after my endo called me about the results of my body

scan. But when I had the RAI treatment though before, it took me longer (about 5

months) before I felt good again. The RAI made me very tired for a few months.

The doctor will let you know. I did not need the RAI treatment this time. But

even without it, it will take 6-8 weeks to feel better after starting back on

synthroid. YMMV

Good luck with your upcoming scan.

RAI x 3 = 489 mCi's total

Synthroid .125 mg

Hi Laurel,

I believe it is definitely a result of RAI. I had it too, very painful.

Mine stopped about a year after RAI, but it still flares up occassionally.

Good luck getting any doctor to admit that it is due to RAI. Best wishes.

I also had it also, took about a year to clear up, could get no one to admit to

it. Finally my nuclear doctor told me that the higher doses can cause some

scarring of gland, which causes the narrowing. Couldn't find any documentation.

It is a BIG secret!!!

Hi Joan, this question is more about my mom.She has had for many

years(probably about 20 years or more) what seems to be your saliva gland

problem. if she eats or even thinks about something sour a lump swells up on

the side of her neck and is very painful. She hasn't seen a Dr. about it, just

waits for it to go down. Her mom and sister ,and now me have thyroid problems

..I'm worried about her but she absolutely hates Doctors. With everything that

I have gone through lately it probably scares her even more. Did the doctors

say it was linked to your thyroid problems? I know she needs to go to the Dr.

but I don't think it will be under her own willpower. in WV

anne,

Just a short note to let you know that I'm a newbie too, just four weeks now.

This group is amazing, every time I go to a doctor's appointment they are

impressed with the questions that I have and the effort I've put in trying to

understand the process.

Keep reading the posts and also check out the archives, which are also very

informative. Keep asking questions, they are such helpful and supportive

folks!

Take care,

Sorry, Lissa, but I don't agree.

Since joining in January you have sent a number of emails about your Relay

It would be a shame if you did unsubscribe though.

With any surgery there is risk, but which are you more scared about your

stomach cut and intestines made into an " Y " or dieing at a young age, dieing

from being over weight, not being able to breath and walk, have a good nites

sleep, high blood pressure, knee's hurting and the list is endless. So my

personally thoughts are: I would much rather have my stomach cut and

intestines made in to " Y " , " Y " eqauls YES I'm going to live alot long with

possible less complications! I now can't ever see myself the size I was,

that scares me!

Hi Gang!

To all of you who responding to my desperate cry for help in getting my

eating under control, I'd like to say THANK YOU!!! I apologize for taking

so long to reply, but my home computer died on me and at work I was so busy

that I wasn't able to always log in. Also, I received so MANY replies that

my email account ran out of space and some of the correspondence, I'm sure,

bounced back to the sender. You guys have no idea how much I treasure your

words and willingness to share, in my case, time and time again. I will be

responding directly to those of you who asked questions, hopefully, by the

weekend.

The advice I received was, as usual, just what I needed to hear! :)My eating

has gotten considerably better, and so has my outlook. Five of the 6-8

pounds I had put on are now gone, whew! Now I'm working on getting the

others off (I still have 40 pounds to go). I'm hoping that by my 2 year

anniversary (Nov. 21), I will be at goal weight.

Again, thank you all!

I just had to write again and let you all know that I am NOW doing things

that I wouldn't have thought about 2 months ago. I sat on a curb yesterday

(took all my nieces and nephews to see MIB2 and fit in one seat with NO

OVERHANG!!!) and got up by myself. Then, when we got home, I was watching

Jeff (nephew) play with his dog from my first breeding (Wyatt) and I got

DOWN ON THE FLOOR AND WRESTLED WITH WYATT, and then GOT UP ALL BY

MYSELF!!!!! I knelt on the floor for a while, too. Oh my God, you can't even

IMAGINE how excited I am. (And I am still at 270, which is by NO means

small!)

, Who is doing your surgery and what type? How long have you been

researching GBS? I had a surgery date of June 12th. When they did my pre op

they found that I had seven to eight superficial ulcers that had to be

treated and healed before surgery. I was upset but it was for the best. At

least they did my endoscopy and found out that I had them before opening me

up. The surgeon said I must have been playing down the pain. I have a high

pain tolerance so that is why I didn't notice the pain. Of course I did

notice after they told me, lol. My surgeon is moving to Louisiana and I opted

to stay with the new surgeon so he will be giving me a date when I see him on

the 22nd in Little Rock. I shall wait and see what I get when I meet him. He

has a good reputation and is well liked. I have been approved so it should

not take long for him to give me a date. Please feel free to write me at my

e-mail address, maybe we can support one another. I have two close friends

who have had the surgery and they are a great support system. I am 47,

happily married with five children, 19,17,9, 8 and 8. I weigh 297, my BMI is

49.9, I'm 5.5 " and I need to lose 170 pounds. I have had high blood pressure

for the past two years so that is why I started researching WLS. My e-mail

address is graydowney@.... God bless,
