Guest guest
Hi Sherry, Welcome to the Thyroid learning group. To begin with, might I suggest that you read everything that you can get your hands on to begin to gain a grasp of what you/we are dealing with... Shomon's web site is a good place to begin: www.thyroid.about.com Another thing would be to go to the files section of this group and read everything in there as well. Topper has a web site that she has set up with a lot of informatin on it: Please realize that this in IMHO (In my humble opinion): >>>Anyway.....What is ur tsh levels?.......... For some of us/me, TSH readings hold no meaning. TSH means Thyroid Stimulating Hormone put out by the pitutary gland to tell the Thyroid gland to make more Thyroid hormone. When the Thyroid gland is not putting out enough of the T hormones the Pitutary gland sends out TSH to get the Thyroid to make more T hormones. The tests that really mean a whole lot of how the bodies levels of T hormones are the Free T3 and Free T4 hormones...These are the hormones that are available for the body to make use of. Total T4 is just that, it is the T4 hormone that is in the blood stream, however it is not all ready for use. If you have to stay by the TSH testings, a great many of us FEEL better and function better when our TSH readings are below the 1.0 level. >>>What meds are u on?? I am currently on generic Armour. As I pay out of pocket the generic is much more cost effective. I also take a great many vitamins to help the body repair itself. Most especially a Stress B complex vitamin as well as a stress level multiple Vitamin, Iron, a very well rounded food plan with protein as the most promonent component. I also take a supplement to support the Adrenal glands-they are going through a lot of stress and are trying to support your body while your body is going through this adjustment in Thyroid replacement therapy. >>> are they working?? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am treated by HOW I FEEL!!! Not by what the blood work says I feel. >>> How do u go on Armour and what is it?? I'm not sure what you are asking here... Armour is instead of/and with Synthroid or/and with Levoxyl or/and with Cytomel. Most of us swear by how Armour has improved our quality of lives. Armour is made from Organic, cleanly raised, hormone free Pigs Thyroid gland. Dried by the hundreds, cleaned, powdered, mixed with a binder, pressed into tablet form and there you go...plain and simplified. I think the Armour web site tells the process in more details... The reason for use of the pigs thyroid is that this animals Thyroid gland organ is the closest replacement combination of all of the Thyroid hormones that our human glands create every minute, every second of the day. Not only does Armour contain T4 it also contains T1, T2, T3, T4, T5...T0 as well as something that starts with a C...it helps with the absorbion of Calcium and helps keep our bones strong... For some of us, our bodies are not able to convert the T4 that is in the Synthectic pills, Synthroid..., So we must find an alternative that contains T3 as well as the rest of the T hormones. Now for a few questions to ask you: Do you remember the diagnosis of your Thyroid? Why was the Thyroid removed? What are you taking, medicine wise? for the rest of what you said has cropped up? NOW, IMHO, I suspect that you need to hold off on any more increases of your Thyroid medication for at least 4 weeks, perhaps even 6 to be sure of the bodies levels. It takes this long for T4 to build up in your muscle system and to start the normal convertion of this stored T4 over into free T3. Questions and reading are the best way to learn... Keep asking, it is by questions that the rest of us learn as well! Guest guest
Oh My God! Another person being horribly mistreated by the doctors. It is monsterous. Your dose is hugely too low for someone without a thyroid. The heatlhy human thyroid makes 4-1/2 to 5 grains or sometimes much more a day. This is about 333 to 370 mcg of synthroid. In the old days when they adjusted synthroid by symptoms, people too 400 to 500 mcg because synthroid is not as efficiently converted to T3. You are being grossly undertreated and mistreated and doctors are such idiots and monsters. You can try to treat yourself. You simply need to raise up your thyroid dose slowly to whatever level you need to feel good. This usually means 1/4 to 1/2 og a gain every two weeks untill you get near about 4 grains, then, slow down to one raise every 4 weeks. You may need to go over and get hyper to find your best dose. This was commonly done in the past. I think Armour, or natural thyroid is worlds better because it is so much closer to human thyroid hormone. It contains all 7 of the thryoid hormones the thyroid makes. Synthroid is just one. You will need 4-1/2 to 5 grains a day, maybe more. Here are some sources of thyroid without prescription: http://www.antiaging-systems.com/a2z/home.htm http://www.1drugstore-online.com/showprice.asp? name=armour & bysearch=ok & menu1=-+-Brand+name-+- & menu2=-+Generic+name+- http://www.myrxforless.com/pharmacy/product-results.asp (this drug store in Mexico has not been working for a while, but it is a good one, hopefully they will take orders again soon.) Also, you can buy Nutri+meds thyroid and use that. Nutri+meds thyroid contains 1/4 grain per tablet, so it is not the most economical if you need a lot. I would dissolve it under my tongue to get the most out of it. I have used it very successfully in the past. It would take about 18 tablets a day to get 4-1/2 grains. But, it's legal. If you have trouble with increases, then you may have developed low adrenal problems. Circulating thyroid controls adrenal size and function. Since the doctors have been abusing you for so long, you probably have adrenal problems. Then, you will need some adrenal support for 4 months to 2 years. This can be got by buying Nutri+Meds adrenal or IsoCort or other good adrenal glandular. You will need 4-6 Nutri+meds a day in 4 even doses about 4 hours apart or 4-8 IsoCorts in 4 even doses 4 hours apart. If you get hyper symptoms on any dose less than about 4 grains, then is is caused by low adrenal or maybe low iron or some other problem that keeps the body from using thyroid hormone. You cannot overdose on anything less than your healthy thyroid would have made. Problems with less than that are caused by other health issues. To help you with adjusting your dose, here is a good page to read: http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp Here is a page on treating yourself with glandulars: http://www.fudgedesign.co.uk/tuk/treat/glandulars.htm Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Sherry... For those of us without thyroids (I had RAI about 15 years ago) it's very important to get our replacement levels correct... I also feel that T4 only synthetics (like Synthroid and Levoxyl) are the worst thing for us, but that's another discussion. For now... what was the reason that they did the RAI? What was your diagnosis? So far I can see that they've given you way too many dosage adjustments in too short a period of time... You're body never had a time to adjust after the surgery... Sorry, pet peeve of mine. Synthetic T4 replacement for those of us with no glands is roughly one mcg of T4 per pound of body weight.. but that is only a guideline. It also depends on how you take your med, how well your body converts and, unfortunately, the poor level of consistency in potency of the synthetics. These dosage adjustments.. did each adjustment involve a new bottle of meds? Are you taking your thyroid med on an empty stomach? Has anyone told you about foods to avoid to prevent hormone binding, effectively reducing the available hormone that you get from day to day? Are they testing your Free T4 and Free T3 levels to determine how your body is making use of the hormone, your conversion rate of T4 (storage hormone) to T3 (active hormone) or are they only testing TS? TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) testing alone, for anyone on replacement hormone, and especially for those of us with little of no gland function, is pretty much useless.. you need to know what your thyroid hormone levels are. I'll wait to hear your answers and then we can go from there.... A bit of reading you might what to do when you have some time.. to outline some of the basics is on our website. www.thyrophoenix.com/thyroid_101.htm Topper () On Tue, 16 Nov 2004 06:15:00 -0000 "Sherry" writes: Hello....I had a complete thyroidectomy in August...After my surgery i got Shingles now i have neurolgia.....as if i needed anything else to worry about!
