Here's a snip from Ron's post where he discussed the viruses and Panda, all

of it for those who are interested. Vicki

<<

At this point, Barb has reported that McAfee failed to detect this

particular infection and Shirly now reports that Norton missed it. Panda

found it. In the recent PC-World anti virus review, Panda took top

honors. Anti Virus Pro was not rated so I do not know how it would have

faired in this situation. Neither Barb nor Shirley told me what versions

of those respective anti virus programs they are using and they did not

assert that they had the absolutely latest signature/pattern files.

Therefore, I am not saying that there is proof positive that those

products are inferior, I am simply reporting the status as it was

reported to me.

Panda Anti Virus can be purchased and downloaded on line at

www.pandasoftware.com. I was unable to get through their on line

purchase routine with Netscape and at first I had problems with Internet

Explorer too. I had to go into the detailed security settings of

Internet Explorer, the screen where there are several dozens of check

box items listed, and turn of " friendly error messages " . That decimates

the incidence of those annoying " can't load the page " screens that have

been plaguing Internet Explorer since Version 5.0. Even version 6 has

that problem but the setting change mentioned above about eliminates it.

Once installed, do an update immediately to bring the signature files up

to date. Panda posts daily updates and that is more frequent and current

then the update service provided by the competitors. In all, they are a

pretty spiffy act. The one thing I did not like about Panda was that it

stripped out the offending attachment without a warning or without

placing a copy of the file in a quarantine folder. It simply deleted it

without notice of having done it or of having found infected email. I

would prefer to know what is happening but at least it protected my

system.
