Guest guest
Denis, First of all, be sure that supplement lipase will never be bad for any person. Even breast milk contains a lipase to help newborns in hydrolisis of breast milk fats. Interestingly the point about vitamin deficiency but not EFA deficiency. Most kids are EFA deficient. I give to my kid the following: lipase + fish oil (omega-3/vitamin A/ vtamin E) + lecithin. Lecithin is a natural fat emulsifier. Also, it will never produce negative effects. But instead will help to fat hydrolysis by suplemented lipase. Did your child have some obesity problem or stool problem? Best luck ! VICTOR > > Hello! Guest guest
Dear D, We tried EFA’s with our daughter, now 17, at various times over the years without the lipase (didn’t know that she needed it at that time), and they made her extremely agitated. As my daughter has a problem digesting fats and oils, a parent here suggested adding the lipase enzyme with the EFA. What a difference we saw in our daughter….better moods and more expressive language. I just wish I would have known about this connection earlier in her life. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of denisevacosta Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2006 5:19 PM Subject: Lipase question Hello! I went through the archives before asking this question but I have several specific concerns that were not answered. My daughter is low in most fat soluble vitamins according to her blood work. I am not sure if my daughter has fat malabsorption issues, but I want to explore the possibility. We also did a panel on EFA's and she came out average compared to general population, but she was on ProEfa at the time. Therefore, I'd like to ask whether anyone feels I should use lipase with the EFA's and Vitamin E/A that I give my daughter. What are the symptoms of fat malabsorption (as opposed to general malabsporption) and will the use of Lipase negatively affect the structure of the EFA's or just aid in digesting them. Finally, will an emulsified form of EFA's be better absorbed than giving the oils and Vit E straight into her mouth. Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure she is taking advantage of the supplements. Thanks in advance, D -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Thank you . Actually it gives me a lot of hope to read that EFA's made a huge difference for your daughter at age 17, because my daughter is getting older (8) and I constantly feel I am running out of time to help her. I imagine that I, like you, will never stop looking for ways to make her life easier, regardless of age. Your daughter is lucky to have you. So far as I know, lipase will help the digestion. My son did not tolerate any EFAs until I addressed his mitochondrial issue, and added amino acids, and preloaded with Omega 6. I wrote his story on this issue here http://www.danasview.net/mar05.htm Dana
Guest guest
>>>... will the use of Lipase negatively affect the structure of the EFA's or just aid in digesting them. Lipase can help the EFAs or any oil be better absorbed. Our bodies need lipase to make use of fats. Sometimes EFAS, oils, Vitamin A and E, or other 'good' fats do not appear to help until you add in lipase, and then " all of a sudden " they work. You may want to consider getting a high lipase enzyme to give between meals if you are giving a fat-based supplement. The ones I know of are: Lypo (Enzymedica) - highest quantity lipase retail product. This can serve to break down most foods as a broad-spectrum but doesn't have as many varied enzymes as Digest Gold. Because it does not contain cellulase, it works well for those on time-released medications where cellulose may be added as a binder. Digest Gold (Enzymedica) - high lipase containing broad-spectrum product. Tyler Lipase Concentrate (Tyler) - only lipase enzymes in a gelatin capsule Biocore Lipo (National Enzyme; available through Kirkmans) - only lipase in a vegetarian capsule Pancreatic enzymes - Some people do well with prescription pancreatic enzyme products for this purpose, such as Viokase, Creon, etc.
Guest guest
Thanks so much for your reply and helpful suggestions as to Lipase options. Yesterday I started her on a Lipase enzyme with her EFA's + Vit E + CLO, and this is what I found: - she started chewing on her clothes, a little more sensory seeking overall - her poops were more formed, approaching hard (actually, so far the EFA's without Lipase have kept her regular, in fact, when we stop the EFA's, she gets a little constipated. Now, this used to seem positive to me but now I wonder if it is a sign that she was not absorbing the oils, making her therefore go more frequently??.) - she seemed a little pale and a little warm (could be totally unrelated but thought I would mention) - decrease in appetite during the day, return of appetite at night. I give her the supplements + Lipase in the morning - she ASKED to go to sleep, and fell asleep quickly... a first. Does it seem like the lipase is working as supposed to from any of these changes? Also, would the Lipase affect if I give it at the same time as other supplements, like a multivitamin? Thanks!! > > >>>... will the use of Lipase negatively affect the structure of the > EFA's or just aid in digesting them. > > Lipase can help the EFAs or any oil be better absorbed. Once my kids could actually absorb fats [with mito cocktail, amino acids, and a few other things], fats caused SEVERE constipation. Apparently, they pull magnesium for proper absorption. Try adding magnesium [i had to give over 1000mg magnesium at first], see if that helps. > - she seemed a little pale and a little warm (could be totally > unrelated but thought I would mention) > - decrease in appetite during the day, return of appetite at night. > I give her the supplements + Lipase in the morning I had to preload with Omega 6 [evening primrose oil] for many weeks before my kids would tolerate Omega 3 [flax oil, fish oil]. Guest guest
I was doing some research on cheesemaking...I finally am getting a decent amount of fresh goats milk and wanted to try it out. When looking around...I noticed that the places that sell the cultures also sell Lipase for very cheap to use in cheeses. Its used for stronger flavored cheeses to give them a better taste. I have been eating a lot of Cultured Kerrygold, up to 1.5 lbs some day...I just crave it intensely and just eat so much of it. I never feel heavy after eating so much butter, so I think my gall bladder is doing just fine but after seeing how cheap the lipase is do you think it would be worth buying some and taking some with each meal? Its less than $10 a pound and they say use 1/4 teaspoon for 2-3 gallons of milk. Would lipase have any other positive effects in the body if I had extra of it? I know the benefits of having extra proteases but haven't read much about lipase. btw, fresh raw milk, still warm from the udder, tastes so much better than milk that has been stored for any period of time. I really think there must be a lot of nutrients lost during storage or something...but I will most certainly culture my milk asap from now on or drink it warm. -
