Hi Sim,

The one thing that I have found over time, this being the last 15+

years dealing with Hashi's, is that most Doctors really have not had

the chance to do detail learning on the subject of an autoimmune

disease such as you might have or as I have.

With hind sight being what it is, I wish I had had the gall to print

out everything that I have found and had " paid " the Doctor those 15

minutes of insurance office visit to read some of the information

that I have found in the last year of what to look for and how to

treat by how a patient feels....and use the Free T3 tests as a

backup tool...sigh... Doctors need to be taught gently what their

teachers did not know to teach.

The fact that you have read Shomon's book as well as her web

site tells me that you are ahead of the game already.

Now, the one thing that I would say from my point of view, for my

health, I was no longer willing to wait for them (Doctors and Nurse

Practioners, etc.) to figure out that Synthyroid was no longer

working for me....I finally took the reins of my treatment into my

own hands and have been slowly getting better, on my own.

I love how I feel so much better on Armour(generic) along with

Adrenal support and tons of vitamin supplements. After all the body

has used up its stores trying to keep this system going while the

Doctors dragged their feet about my treatment.

I could go on but that was another email.

I know how I felt when I was 30, and it is close to that feeling of

being alive that I am striving to acheive again. As far as other

medical problems I still would go to a Doctor (specialist) if I have

to.

I can't tell you what to do, I can only say what I did and I feel

soooo much better than I did a year ago...

I would recommend that you keep a journal of your pre-rising basel

temp, how you feel for the day, extra stress, easy day, car broke

down, kids blew up the jack-o-lantern, etc... and see if there isn't

a pattern that appears on a weekly basis or yearly or monthly or....

For me, right now it, my stressor is living without a furnace until

the furnace people get in a new circuit board and get it

installed....I'm just glad that we don't have any snow yet...but its

cold enough pre dawn temps will be in the 20's tomorrow

(today)...burrrrrr, chuckle, can you tell that my perpetual summer

has found a respite?????chuckle, sigh, and so has my pocket book,

sigh...

Anyway, I digress...sorry about that.....

Hey !

Thank you so much! I've had my suspicions about things like

hahimotos; but they always tell me that I don't have it. How do you

go about getting your own armour thyroid and testing? Are you in NY

also? Yes, they are rats for getting invloved in our health and

private business! Synthroid's makers must have too much to lose!

Hi,

The frustration that you speak of is why quite a few of us are now

self-medicating and self-testing.

Unless we let the politicians chance how we are able to trouble-

shoot our own lives and medical conditions, you probably can order

blood workups directly from

www.healthcheckusa.com

It if from these tests that some of us find out what our FREE T3's

are. Most Doctors probably do not realize that there is a

difference between the Total T3 and the Free T3 results…again from

the lack of training in this area of tests and what they may signify…

There are times that I wish my Grandmother was still alive. She had

her Thyroid removed and lived on Armour for over 40 years, being

treated based on how she felt… I wish I could ask her how things

were… sigh.

I live in N. Nevada, in the foothills east of Lake Tahoe.

Hi Gossimer;

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into it. Yes, I believe

that my doctor was either confused or just didn't want to test my

free t3 for some reason.

My grandmother is still alive, and presently living with me. She

had her thyroid removed 60 years ago due to hyperthyroidism. In

August she called me in to her home in NYC because she was very ill,

but terrified of hospitals. Her legs had blown up like balloons ,

and she had terrible anxiety. By the time she gave me the go ahead

to call the doctor, they were all out of town because of the

repulican convention. So, we carried her out (literally) and brought

her to LI. It was there that a doctor took one look at her and

said< " even a med student could have dxed this woman with bilateral

edema brought on by beginning heart failure " her organs were filled

w/ fluid and her mind became demented. Further blood tests showed

hypothyroidism. W

Well, we spent two months watching her get worse. I had to take

care of all of her needs, she couldn't even use the bathrookm

anymore. Just when we had given up all hope (we actually had her

funeral service planned; we were going to scatter her ashes in

Rome); she all of a sudden made a complete about face! To make a

long story short, she is now going out with us every day, once or

twice a day, is completely lucid (just a month ago, I could barely

leave the house because she fancied that the neighbors were trying

to kill her).

She had been on thyroid replacement for about two months. During

that time, she had also been seen by an incompetent cardiologist who

prescribed digoxin, despite the fact that she was on synthroid. It

was after I questioned the meds and they changed them that she made

the turn for the better. I also prayed a lot, either that she get

better or that God take her home. Never give up on prayer, because

what we have all witnessed was a complete miracle. A month ago, my

grandmother was a demented bedridden mess, now she is well enough to

insist on accompanying me to my endo because she wants to give him a

piece of her mind about his indifferent treatment of my case, lol.
