And lets you watch your body much more closely than waiting for labs, even complete ones. I've been doing it for over two years now... recently (the last 6 months or so) just spot checking. In fact. After my little experiment last week I figured I really should check a bit more often... my pulse has actually dropped... about 67... But I forgot to get the thermometer ready for this morning so I didn't get that checked. I've been planning on a dosage increase.. and now is the time... Well see how it goes over the next couple of months. I have such a dickens of a time adjusting.... my poor ole body just got too much abuse with being underdosed for so long... (I'll choose that as the cause.. the others make me angry.. I have a mercury thermometer, but as you know, it'll take 5 to 7 minutes upon waking for it to reach value. Just looking for a faster way. Also, since I'm on Toprol XL, I know my pulse will be low; so I'm not sure how much value this reading will be for me. Guest guest Posted November 2, 2004 Report Share Posted November 2, 2004 I take Toprol for 2 reasons: (1) control blood pressure (2) they increased the dose after I had AFib following my thyroidectomy last May....hoping to keep that from recurring. So far it hasn't, but I still think the AFib was due to the rush of thyroid hormone released into my system after all the manipulating of the gland during its removal.
