Bonnie,

Thank you so much for your support. I am going to talk with my daughter again when she gets home from work. She works at dunkin donuts. I am so glad she doesn't bring her work home with her. But that is a good idea, for her to put things where I won't find it. Thank you. My granddaughter is actually a good influence. She really doesn't like baked goods, and she only eats the baked lays chips. She is 6, I am blessed with her. But it sure is wonderful to have you ladies to turn to for help and support.

hugs

Hi Marla, I think most of us have felt ashamed of ourselves at one time or

another...I know I spent 4 years deeply ashamed of my weight. I just

want you to know that you're not alone. And you know, a few really

good days at a time is wonderful--all you can do is take it one day at

a time. You've lost 41 pounds, and that's amazing! So despite your

ups and downs (we *all* have them!), you are going in the right direction!

As for your daughter bringing home junk food, well...I've been there

with my husband. I have gotten to where I don't care what he buys,

but he has to put it somewhere I won't easily find it. The morning

after Halloween, the boys had two large bags full of candy and I asked

him to hide it (otherwise, and I'm not kidding, I'd eat most of

it--once I start, I can't stop). He's been pretty good about it. I

told him that if he wants to have stuff around, just don't eat it in

front of me or the boys (they're young and I want them to learn to eat

healthy). So he buys chips and stuff like that and he just puts it

where I won't find it. I *really* don't want my boys to get addicted

to junk like we both are and he's pretty supportive about it now that

we've been doing it a while.

Anyway, it's just an idea...maybe she'd be willing to keep that sort

of thing out of the cupboards/pantry so it doesn't tempt you as much.

It's a tough situation. Good luck. And I'm glad you wrote to tell

us about you :)

Hi Marla. I know I am late in replying, but I just saw your post after

returning from vacation. My daughter had problems with elevated liver numbers

also.

For her, the culprit turned out to be Salsalate. When my daughter started on

Salsalate, it was at the 1 month blood check that we found out her liver does

not tolerate that med. We took her off for 2 weeks and retested and her liver

enzymes were going down. We challenged her by starting again and checked levels

at 1 week and they had already shot up higher than the first test. We had to

change her NSAID. I hope you have gotten answers by now. Good luck, Kim

Dear ,

Thank you for writing, you and i had correspondence several months back. So

the Enbrel and methetrexate combination seems to be possibly the next step. I

just wanted to be able to throw some educated ideas to her dr. in January. How

is your son doing? Has he had knee problems recently (I thought I read that?

Kali's back hurts her everyday, almost all day. Last week she could not get

down our stairs because of her knees, and the on friday it was her knees, back,

fingers so bad she couldn't even type to her teachers, elbows and shoulders. I

figured the weather was a big factor. Does your son have pain-free days? Kali

barely complained for the past few years, since high school stsrted and the

longer days, longer class sitting periods, and more note taking along with a

three leveled school, she has already missed 8 days. more than 6th, 7th and 8th

grade combined. She's having a tough year.

Thanks again,

Marla

Since she is already on methotrexate, the next step would be one of the

biologicals, such as Enbrel, Humira or Remicade.

What part of the country do you live in?

My son has ankylosing spondylitis, by the way. He is currently on Enbrel

and methotrexate. Sulfasalazine did not work for him even with

methotrexate added. Enbrel seems to be losing its effectiveness for him,

currently. However, it was his miracle drug 2 years ago.

Marla,

From what I understand is the next step would be methotrexate which can

be a weekly injection or weekly pills. My husband actually takes

Sulfasalazine for his liver to keep the enzymes down so I don't believe

that would be a big factor in raised enzymes (but his is for a different

autoimmune not jra). I wish there was a miracle combination for the pain

but unfortunately my daughter has not found one yet either. So, I guess I

would say the MTX and then additionally the Enbrel if needed. From

everything I have read recently MTX will soon be as the norm in the first

6 months-total aggressive to try and knock it on its rear in the

beginning.

There used to be someone named Marla on this group who had the email address

talithakumi@..., but when I tried emailing her it bounced.

I don't think she's posted in a long-time. Does anyone happen to have

her current email address? Or, Marla if you're out there, put your

hand up or something! :-)
