Guest guest
Watch the lows. If it gets to 80 he will probably need to cut his meds down and call the doctor. I think you told us, but I forgot what meds is he on? The mind is going! Phyllis

The mind is going! good old CRS...i have it to ;-) he takes Glucovance....although I cannot say how much (I have a hard enough time remembering my own meds) but we have already cut them in half...the doc told me to test, test, test and use our own judgment till we see him Monday and said he would be surprised if we didn't have to cut it down...boy! was he right!....so when my Husband reached under the 140 mark I had him cut it in half....today he got a reading of 110 at one point...it seems every time he tests (with the exception of a small morning rise he's having) he is lower (about 10 points a day)...we may actually have to half it again before Monday. I'm also on GlucophageXR 500 mg before bed. I am considering skipping it tomorrow night just to see how it goes...I haven't been on it long...only a month...but it is looking like maybe I can stop it since I'm pretty much staying in the 80's and I have begun to loose weight (YIPEE!!!!). I would have given it a shot tonight except for my little panic and cabbage binge last night...i want to make sure I'm totally over that before I try. Thanks for the warning!!! Guest guest
Hi, Deb, I'm two days behind on mail so this may have already been pointed out to you, but the effect of Glucophage is cumulative so just skipping one day won't prove anything. If you're going to wean down, cut it a little bit at a time and wait a week before cutting it down more, testing and taking good notes all the way. I'm way behind on my mail also...two computers crashed on us in one day...weird...huh? We did get them back up and working...we thought it was a virus since they are on a network...but no virus...just weird luck. Anyhow...too late! It's been 48 hours since I've taken any. I'm watching very closely but I really think I'm okay...I just got a bg of 75! I couldn't believe it! I had had what I felt was maybe a bit too large a dinner also just two hours before that reading.(two thin pork chops and 1/2 box frozen cauliflower). I had only been on 500 mg and only for about a month....so maybe it didn't have alot of time to take hold of me. It was the fact that the doc insisted I needed to be on a med that caused me to start searching for a better way. Anyhow...now with this reading of 75 I'm beginning to wonder if I need just a bit more carbs. Atkins says 20 the first two weeks...Bernstine says 10...so I've been trying to stay between the two....but if I am getting this low where my highs are 75 I have to wonder where my lows are...and also there is the ketone issue. I'm testing moderate and I was feeling thirsty (like maybe my kidneys were working overtime) before I stopped the Glocophage. Now I am better but when it gets low I get thirsty again. This thrust is complicated by the fact that I am on a few other meds that make me thirsty and it's hard for me to tell exactly waht is causing it...so I think I'm going to try adding an extra salad into my diet and see how if effects my sugar. Would anyone know...am I correct in assuming if we feel our ketones are going too high we have to increase our carbs to deal with that problem? Also another question...I know the initial stage of the diet is to give your liver time to get rid of it's store of glycogen.....now my doc said that process takes two weeks so that is why the first stage of the diet is supposed to last two weeks...but I seem to be burning fat extremely efficiently considering I lost 5 lbs in 5 days (I assume alot of that was also water) and considering my bg readings. Is it possible that some people get thru the first stage faster then others?
