I'm looking to choose oxygen alternatives live as full a live as

possible while in my current state or near it. I'd greatly appreciate

any and all recommendations. Here are the basics:

Oxygen Requirements:

• 2 liters continuous flow at rest and casual moving around

house. Sometimes less when just sitting.

• 2.5 liters – 3 liters when out and about doing casual things

and on conserver/pulse

• 4 liters continuous to exercise

• Intend to get out of house if only for a few minutes every day

and for several hours every other day.

• Intend to take trips of one to three days by car periodically.

• Intend to take a few longer trips of two to three weeks or more.

Oh, Peggy, I am so with you on the candy. I never had much of a sweet tooth before this -- my downfalls were popcorn, chips and other salty snacks. And now I dream about sweet gooey desserts. It doesn't even have to be chocolate any more.....

Have you ever considered getting an Inogen One? I have one for travel. I need it all all elevations over 2000' and when flying. It is allowed on most airlines and has an attachment that you can plug into the cigarette lighter of you car. The batteries last about 3 hours (if you are on 3LPM or less). It is a pulse oxygen unit. I got mine 2 years ago when we had to drive to our new home...through the mountains in New Mexico! Bruce Moreland wrote:

Bruce, I actually own 2 portable 02 units. One goes to 3 liter continuous flow because when I need 02 at night, it has to be continuous flow. It came in a very durable steel case that could be put in the cargo of a plane for travel. I also purchased the unit that could be put into my car so it could be plugged in when traveling by car. The other is the Inogen One which can run on batteries. THis is for use on a plane. We have traveled to California, Puerto Vajarata, Florida, and taken a cruise to Alaska...all in the past 3 years. Bruce,

While I was on 2,3, and 4 liter flow, I did most anything that I wanted. There were periods when I felt absolutely normal and periods when I was sick and weak. At 5L things began to change. Tanks didn't last as long and that meant more to pack around. I still drove, even on short 2-3 hour trips. I shopped, spent days out with my friends and grandkids. Took vacations....whatever.

Things changed this summer when I went to 8L in a matter of 3 months. I now have sudden drops in saturation and feel faint. I am not able to do a lot of things unless I have really high flow. In order to go out, I have to take so much 02 that I need a flatbed truck. I am finding it easier to just stay home. I am really pushing myself to keep driving and going out.

The point of this is to tell you that quality of life depends on disease progression and oxygen need. Do whatever it takes to stay as healthy as you possibly can. You already are so well informed and that is soooooo important.

Are you going to consider transplant?

Am relaxed....just deciding what kinds of tanks and such I want.

Compressed versus Liquid, Conservers, Converters, Helios, so many

choices, just considering them all.

Yes, one of the options I would consider. Do you use it at home or

have a different system there?

When I was on 02 24/7, I used liquid gas in my home as I needed continuous flow at night. I had to choose just one so I chose liquid gas. The other kind was too loud during the night and kept me awake. When we chose to relocate to a lower elevation so that I could be off 02, we purchased an Inogen One and a continuous flow unit (up to 3 LPM) as both were needed when traveling by care. I used the Inogen One during the day in the car (when I could be on pulse) and the continuous flow unit at night when I needed to be on continuous flow. I continued to use the continuous flow at night even in our new location until my 02 was monitored at night and the pulmonologist said I could stop....even though most of the night I was at about 88 with one dip to 82. (It seems that, if you can be without 02 during the day and do not drop below 80 at night, the consensus is that it is better to be off 02 at night than to use it.) I am glad I purchased both units. I use the Inogen One everytime we travel by plane or travel by car to higher elevations. I use the continuous flow unit when we travel by car and need to spend the night at higher elevations. Also, I have been told that it is only a matter of time until my lungs will weaken (from being overworked) and I will need 02 regularly again...probably first at night and for exercise. By having my own units and a pulse-oxymeter, I can make this transition when the time comes. My first pulmonologist was kind enough to give me a lifetime 02 prescription for when that time comes. I can use the continuous flow portable for sleep if needed. (I did use it at hotels when driving to Texas for our relocation.) I also used it in our new home until the pulmonologist agreed to have my sleeping saturation monitored for two nights...one with the 02 and one without. This particular oxygen machine only goes to 3 LPM. However, it can be packed into a steel case and shipped in the cargo of a plane if needed! It also has the capacity to be plugged into a special socket in cars. If your car doesn't have such a socket, you can purchase the unit to be installed in your car . I can't use the Inogen One for sleep as, when I need 02 for sleeping, I need continuous flow. This is why I needed two machines. The continuous flow is NOT battery operated and, therefore, could not be used on a plane. The Inogen can be plugged in or operated on lithium batteries. It is approved by most

(but not all) airlines. Bruce Moreland wrote: You use a portable for sleep? > I'm looking to choose oxygen alternatives live as full a live as > possible while in my current state or near it.
