Guest guest
As I mentioned previously, I was scheduled for the UAE procedure on April 10. The procedure went well and besides the medical staff, I have this community to thank for all of your information, advice and well wishes. I did not have some of the same experiences mentioned in some of the emails I read and was prepared for the immediate effects of the after surgery experience. There was no dibilitating nausea, no chronic or severe pain (I barely touched the morphine pump). I was not awake for most of the procedure-no I did not get general anesthesia-I was just out of it. I remember being wheeled into the room (not a traditional " operating " room), one of the techs put on jazz music for mmy listening pleasure, i remember the insertion of the catheter (no problem there), I did feel the dye going in (a weird feeling, but not unpleasant) and that was it. The procedure started at 8 am and I woke up after recovery about 5 pm. I don't know how long it lasted. Two friends and dinner were in my room when I awoke-but I was still sort or out of it. I did not really have any pain while in the hospital and kept asking why. I did not experience a fever. SO, I guess I was lucky. I was discharged from the hospital (where I was treated like a princess) at 2:00 the following day. When I went into the hospital for the procedure, I carried in a healthcare power of attorney, spoke with the nurses who were attending the procedure and the doctor who performed the procedure. And the information I was " armed with " I got from the women who belong to this group. I cannot express to you how grateful I am to all of you in general and to the women to contacted me privately to allay my fears, in particular. Before the procedure, I had a short list of questions. First I asked if the cervical/vaginal arteries could be avoided. I had my future " happiness " in mind when I asked this. I did not get a guarantee, but the doctor said that a best effort would be made. I also asked about the drugs to be administered to minimize nausea. I asked for a scopoline patch (forgive the spelling) and it worked. I also took home a prescription for nausea for use at home. I asked for vicodin and dilalud for pain while at home. As it turned out, I only used the vicodin on one day and used advil as needed the balance of the time. I did not need to use the dilalud at all. The experienced writers here were not kidding about the bloating discomfort. I needed the metamucel. I did not have any problems with fever, in fact the post-op recovery period was uneventful. I initially set aside 7 days for recovery, but based on my doctor's nurse's advice, I changed my leave period to 12 days off. I could have returned after the seventh day, but I had been working so much overtime the month before-I took advantage and enjoyed the opportunity to rest. I am happy to say that I lost a little weight. I attribute that to not having had much of an appetite and it has not fully returned yet. The size of my abdomen has decreased, but I still have a long way to go. The greatest thing is that my constant bleeding stopped. I don't have to wear pads or panty liners everyday anymore and I feel much stronger and energenic. My only " regret " is that I did not have the procedure done sooner.
