Guest guest
Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about my progress in finding treatment for hypothyroidism. I got to an endo who prescribed 50 mg of synthetic T4 as a " trial " to see if it helped me feel better. I bought the T4, but haven't used it yet. I figured that the small dose would probably make me feel worse since I've got adrenal issues too. But I did go to a naturopath, who listened to my entire medical history and looked at all my labs. Anyway, long story short, this is what he prescribed: 30 minutes before breakfast: Vitamin C 1000 mg Ultra Liver Care 1 capsule Protease Enzyme 1 capsule At breakfast, lunch & dinner, with at least 1 glass of water: Adrenal support 5 drops Multi Vitamin/Mineral 2 tablets (morning & evening only) Omega Fish oil 1 capsule L-Tyrosine 1 capsule (30 minutes b/4 food or 90 minutes after) Ultra Liver Care 1 capsule (lunch & dinner only) Vitamin C 1000 mg Modifilan 1 tablet (the stuff given to Chernobyl kids) Folic acid 1 tablet daily Chromium GTF 200 mcg 1 tablet Before bed: See pre-breakfast list. Just to recap, my TSH levels are generally 4ish, with one lab value reaching 5.91 (above the upper limit according to the lab). FT4s tend to be mid range. Antibodies were well below the limit. I also have type 2 diabetes, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and somewhat anemic. I'm also a survivor of childhood cancer, in which 1 kidney and adrenal gland were removed and I underwent extensive radiation treatment. I'm currently on 20 mg of Simvastatin and 1700 mg of Metformin, plus BCPs for the PCOS. Basically, the naturopath I went to feels that my body has been under a lot of stress for a long time, and requires this bombardment of supplements in order to begin recovery. The L-Tyrosine is meant to help my thyroid work better. The seaweed stuff (Modifilan) is supposed to repair some of the damage caused by the radiation I had as a kid. In addition, I'm supposed to avoid sugar, wheat, dairy and peanuts for the next three months to rule out an allergy to any of these items (well, I'm obviously sensitive to sugar ). I'm going in for a follow-up visit next week, 1 month after I started treatment. I was a bit skeptical about his method, but he said to give it a try for 3 months, and that if it didn't help, we'd try something else. Meanwhile, I do feel somewhat better. I have more energy, and I can stay up later at night without falling asleep (although I try to get to bed by 10pm or earlier). I still feel tired, but not totally exhausted like I used to feel most of the time. The L-Tyrosine has an affect, I can feel when it's time to take more, because I start to get tired. Still... I can't help wondering whether or not this will work, and I really want to be a normally functioning human again. Any thoughts on this treatment regimen? Has anyone here been prescribed a similar plan of action? blithe
