It causes thyroid hormone to be bound tightly to protein carriers in

the blood and not be available for tissues. So, the higher estrogen

goes, the more thyroid is tightly bound. It also interferes with the

functioning of the thyroid by slowing it's production of hormone and

altering pituitary/hypothalamus function.

Some of this information can be found on Ray Peat's website. One

article here talks about HRT and what it does to thryoid function:

Tish, or anyone, what would you recommend for a person with

thyroid/adrenal issues as well as diabetes and PCOS, instead of a

birth control pill?

I'm currently on a BCP for women with PCOS, which controls my acne

very well. I've been thinking about going off the BCP once my

thyroid/adrenal issue improves, but I'm afraid the unpleasant PCOS

symptoms will come back.

What is recommended? Vitex? Progesterone cream? Can these be used

long term? Will they keep my PCOS symptoms at bay?

Bear in mind, the issue here is more about balancing

estrogens/progesterones/androgens and avoiding yucky symptoms like

acne. Actual birth control is less of a concern (can use a barrier

method instead).
