Hi Topper,

you asked, here you go....grin

My mom and I share a townhouse that we bought 19 months ago. This

past spring she was diagnosed with Asthma on top of her allergies.

The Doctor recommended removal of all 15 year old wall to wall

carpets. And not allow any animals in her bedroom, especially at

night. So, between the two of us we came up with enough money to get

rid of the carpets and replace it with hardwood floors and tiles in

the bathrooms....When we contacted the contractor and got things

rolling the flooring company had two teams available two weeks

hence....for one week. Then the teams had to move onto other

contracted jobs.

SOOOOO, we packed up the china, books, antiques, moved plants

outside, ... packed up basically the whole house except for the

kitchen. My books, desk, tv, everything in the den and most of

everything from my bedroom went out onto the patio. My moms stuff

was put out in the garage. Of course, this was during the monsoon

period and what turned out to be the hottest day/week of the

year...the luck stayed with us...we only got spat on while the books

were outside, thank God. The furniture was either removed from the

rooms or was carried and shoved from one side to the other as they

removed the old carpet and padding. I sent my mom over to my sisters

home during this process...way too much particulate matter in the

air during this time for someone with Asthma. Anyway, what was

supposed to be a " One week " project turned out to take almost two

weeks for the wood flooring and bathroom tile to be installed, they

had to replace the flooring around the fireplace during this process

which added another week to the total, the stairway took 4 days with

a team of three working on it. They had to come back and repair some

things, clean up the glue on the wood flooring that was installed on

concrete downstairs...sigh...................

Anyways, we are still waiting for the mantel for the fireplace to be

reinstalled...it had to be fixed.

chuckle, I got mom unpacked and up and running, got my bedroom

functional finally and now have only a few boxes left to unpack in

the den...and the weather is getting cool here so the plants had to

be brought in and the den isn't finished yet...the exercise gazelle

is in the den now...early morning workouts outside is too cold for

asthma lungs.....needless to say my den looks like a wreak...the

rest of the house looks great.

The air is cleaner, less dust to wipe up every day....

In otherwords, unless we have a relapse of the sever asthma attack

that mom had last spring, I think we have this thing licked...even

the cats eyes are less tear stained.

I have to repaint a few walls still and do some touch ups because of

furniture rearrangeing and the dings that come from 8 men in the

house at the same time...and their equipment...

It took basically two months for a one week project....both mom and

I are really tired of strangers coming and going.

One thing for sure, the next time we move, the carpets will get

replaced before we move in...(more than likely it'll be me who

moves) Mom wants to stay here for the rest of her years...this is a

great area for her to be in....

Enough for now, its time for the sack...
